So E3 is over, everyone’s packed up and gone home and sorted through their swag and figured out what to sell for exuberant prices on eBay. But in the explosion that was City Escape on the console version of Sonic Generations, as well as the fangasm that was Sonic Boom, it was easy to look over the other version of Generations coming our way, the version exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. Luckily, gaming site Nintendo World Report recorded the entire experience, including a direct feed of the audio. So if you’re curious to see how the Green Hill Zone sounds in the palm of your hand, then don’t stop yourself. Watch the video below:
Sonic Generations
You may have noticed your Sonic Retro Boom Crew has been a bit quiet with poor David stepping up and keeping this place from being a waste. We love you and you’re awesome.
Well, we weren’t strangers at Sonic Boom. To those who went, you may have seen us. We were that small group near the cupcakes and the 3D Generations station not wearing those Sonic hats. Some of you stopped by to say hi because you somehow know how Scarred Sun looks like or you wanted to chew out Slingerland before realizing he’s a behemoth of a man, and we thank you for all the kind words and support!
You’ll recognize me as that one dork in the brown overshirt with a blue shirt, a DSLR and the huge red backpack stuffed with eight Sonic hats flitting around the floor taking photos and talking to whatever Sega people showed up.
Now, most of of us are heading home today, so things are going to be a teeny bit slow on Boom content, but rest assured, we got tons of photos, video, and maybe some more goodies lined up for you as the weekend rolls on by.
Again, thanks to everyone who stopped on by us!
Sonic Adventure 2 was the last Sonic game on a Sega system, the first to be ported to a Nintendo system, and what many consider the last great hurrah of the Sonic series. So it was no surprise when yesterday the first trailer for City Escape‘s inclusion in Sonic Generations came out. For those wondering how the level looks beyond the minute preview, once again Gamespot has come to your aid. Earlier today, the site’s live coverage of E3 showcased most of the level for both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic, the classic being a delightful romp that is able to prove that classic Sonic can work in environments we’re not used to, and skateboard the only way one should – extreme and in the 90’s.
Wish you were at E3? Of course you do. That’s why you’re on the Internet right now, browsing every site possible and trying to get the latest info on every game you ever wanted (but were afraid to ask for). But even if you learn everything, it’s not the same as actually being on the show floor, seeing everyone trying to sell their games and tell you why it’s going to be the greatest thing ever. The veritable website Gamespot knows this, and has set one of their many visual hosts to stroll about Sega’s booth at the expo, showing off not only their Sonic-related content including Sonic Generations but also a handful of upcoming titles which are being published by Sega (they do make other games, in case you’ve forgotten) including Guardian Heroes and Renegade Ops. Aside from getting a brief glimpse of the Generations set-up, we get to enjoy Homer Rabara frightening a young PR woman with his microphone, watch a man in 3D glasses for far too long and in the final moments get a visit from everyone’s favorite brand manager of the past. Yes, Ken Balough’s bright shining face appears, even if he’s talking about Guardian Heroes and not Sonic the Hedgehog. And no, your ears are not deceiving you. The host accidentally calls Ken “Ben.”
Wait, who frames copies of the Archie comic?

Several eagle-eyed fans watching the new trailer for the console version of Sonic Generations managed to catch a ton of little references to characters and other materials from the series. Turns out there’s quite a few of them and then some… and that’s just on this stage, with plenty of other nods in bound.
At least, that’s what ArchangelUK over at Sonic Wrecks says. He would know: some of these easter eggs were his suggestions from when he worked as community relations for the Sonic City Blognik. Go over there and give it a read, if you want. For the rest of you who just want pictures, just look down!
Try to be excited, even though we all saw it coming.
To celebrate E3, Sega dumped out a new trailer showing the two Sonics running through the streets of San Franci–, Station Squ–, Central City, or whatever they’re calling it now, from Sonic Adventure 2 and causing whatever havoc two cracked out on speed Hedgehogs do to civilization.
With Sonic Boom less than a week away and Sega releasing trickles of details about Sonic Generations‘ 3DS iteration, including that StreetPass will be foolishly used for additional unlockable content, you can imagine that news has been rather slow to generate.
Although now there’s rumors that Sonic Generations is also headed to Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Vita (the PSP2) device, those are largely hearsay and it’s before E3, so take that with a truckload of salt.
So, while sitting with the lovely and rabid people of our IRC channel in #retro (drop on by, we won’t bite… hard,) a discussion came up about Generations 3DS stages. It’s likely the modern stages will cause a rift in both versions of the games, so the console version may include levels from Sonic 2006 (prepare the painkillers), Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colo(u)rs, while the 3DS version will tote levels from Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, and… Sonic Colo(u)rs.
This isn’t limited to that era too. It’s a possibility that Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Heroes entries will be replaced with counterparts from Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Advance 3 on the 3DS.
So here’s where you guys come in. What stages would you like to see from those games? Unfortunately, both games cannot get Starlight Carnival or Sweet Mountain, so it’s decision time. Sound off in the comments below!
Don your scuba masks, because here comes one hell of a flood.
Earlier, we reported that Nintendo Power confirmed Sonic Generations on 3DS. Now, thanks to forum member Effexor, we have delicious gigantic scans of the article and images of the 3DS version for your consumption.
But for those of you who don’t want to sift through all the text to find whatever tasty morsels of information are in there, just hit the jump for the key details. You can also find the scans down below.
Finally, we can put this rumor to rest.
After much teasing from Nintendo Power of an announcement in their July issue and the usual slip of the hand by Sega through a financial report, the tale of two Sonics is headed toward Nintendo’s depth-delivering handheld.
No screens have been shown on the game, so it’s unknown if this will mirror its console counterpart or follow its own beat akin to Sonic Colors on the DS.
While this confirms a 3DS release for the game, there’s no mention of the PC version also listed on that financial report, but at the moment, it’s safe to say that it’s looking good.
The issue also confirms that another classic Sega franchise is getting a new lease on life in the form of Shinobi. The franchise had a revival attempt back in 2002 on the Xbox and PlayStation 2 and was met with fair reception.
Check out an intenral production trailer for Shinobi with no audio after the jump.

We reported earlier that Sega may have let the cat out of the bag with their 2011 Financial Report that Sonic Generations was en route to the 3DS and some system labeled “PC”. The same graphic (above) was changed in a re-released version of the documents to the press, removing the 3DS and PC entries for Sonic Generations, but changing nothing else.
