Those who have always wanted to pit some blue guy against some red guy against some blue anthropomorphic animal will finally be able to do so in the new Super Smash Bros game for Wii U and 3DS, as Nintendo confirmed that Sonic will be playable on the latest Nintendo Direct. The trailer above shows that he’ll retain his moves and taunts from Super Smash Bros Brawl and that there will also be a stage based on Sonic Lost World. Sonic Lost World Getting Pre-order DLC Featuring Omochao

In these modern times video games often have pre-order bonuses to convince the consumer to buy the game. Usually this is some kind of skin, extra mission or unlockable character. For Sonic Lost World there’s already the Deadly Six edition for everyone who buys a first run copy, but apparently Sega thought this wasn’t incentive enough.

Depending on where you pre-order Sonic Lost World, you can get a some extra items or an exclusive skin for Omochao. In the UK you can get a rare gold Omochao RC Gadget and five extra Black Bomb Color Powers at ShopTo. In the US Gamestop has an Omochao RC Gadget with a Sonic skin and at Amazon.com the pre-order bonus is 25 extra lives.

gamescom_header_975x285

SEGA announced today that if you’re going to Gamescom next week, you’ll be able to try out a Sonic Lost World demo with new levels at the Nintendo booth. A new trailer and screenshots will also be released for those who for some reason don’t live near Germany or can’t afford a plane ticket.

As for other SEGA things at Gamescom, Total War: Rome II will be playable at the Koch booth and there’ll be some news about Double Fine’s already released game The Cave at the Cosmocover booth, likely about the mobile version. SEGA will also be present at PocketGamer Mobile Mixer and The Big Indie Pitch, both of which take place right before Gamescom starts.

Impressions of the new Lost World demo will be posted here on the front page once Gamescom is over. In the meantime, you can read the impressions of several other Retro members of the Summer of Sonic demo.

Nintendo Direct: Japanese Cutscene and Wii U/3DS Connectivity From Sonic Lost World Shown Off

Our first look at a cutscene was shown off on the Japanese Nintendo Direct, which was live streamed earlier today. This video features the Deadly Six turning Eggman’s badniks against him, also Cubot and Orbot from Sonic Colours make a return after being mostly absent from Sonic Generations.

Meanwhile on the Nintendo Direct spoken in a language most of us can actually understand, the connectivity between the 3DS and Wii U versions was revealed. On the 3DS you can create gadgets which can then be transferred to the Wii U version, where the gadget can be controlled by a second player. A small bit of new gameplay showing this off was shown as well, which you can watch after the jump. Sonic Lost World is the very first subject of the video, so you don’t have to look far for it. SoS 2013 – Sonic Lost World Impressions

001_slw-sos2013Summer of Sonic features an in-development game to play every year, usually for the first time to the public outside big industry shows like E3. This year, we got Sonic Lost World, on both Wii U and 3DS, making its debut in the United Kingdom.

First, a quick summary of what was on show. The rep told us this was the Comic-Con build, so for the few Americans in the audience who were there, we played the same game you did. There were three Wii U demo pods and six 3DSes running. On the Wii U game there were 4 levels available to play: Windy Hill, Desert Ruins 1 (styled with a small letter S shoe-horned in between the s and the e on the title card to make Dessert – a pun on the fact it’s a candy/sweets level), Desert Ruins 2 (an auto-run level through honey combs) and Frozen Factory (the Sonic 2-styled casino level). On the 3DS, there were 3 available choices – a Windy Hill tutorial level, Windy Hill 1 and Desert Ruins 2 (here, an Egyptian-themed puzzle level with moving around of blocks & balls). We tried to play as much as possible, bearing in mind that because of queue lengths there was a limit of one level per person. Those of you who recall back to Summer of Sonic 2010 may remember we did a look at Sonic Colours‘ debut – this time we have opinions on the game not just from myself but several Sonic Retro forum members, so read on to see what we thought!

Casinos Are Back in Sonic Lost World

lostworldcasino3

If you were disappointed that Casino Night’s remake in Sonic Generations was nothing more than a downloadable pinball table, you’ll be pleased to see that Sonic Lost World will have a very similar looking zone. Yesterday a bunch of screenshots showing it were put on The Sonic Stadium’s Facebook page by an user named Leo Dz.

There are also screenshots of other new acts of zones we had already seen, including a stage featuring an owl with spotlight eyes. Also some cactus things with faces. These can be seen below, this post will be updated when higher quality screens are available.

Update: The screenshots can now be viewed in 1080p, more screens have also been added. Click on that “read more” button there to see them.
