Our first look at a cutscene was shown off on the Japanese Nintendo Direct, which was live streamed earlier today. This video features the Deadly Six turning Eggman’s badniks against him, also Cubot and Orbot from Sonic Colours make a return after being mostly absent from Sonic Generations.
Meanwhile on the Nintendo Direct spoken in a language most of us can actually understand, the connectivity between the 3DS and Wii U versions was revealed. On the 3DS you can create gadgets which can then be transferred to the Wii U version, where the gadget can be controlled by a second player. A small bit of new gameplay showing this off was shown as well, which you can watch after the jump. Sonic Lost World is the very first subject of the video, so you don’t have to look far for it.

LOOOOL
YAY!!!!!! CUTSCENE,!!!!, I love looking at the cutscenes in these games. I’ve never been so hyped for a sonic game in like.. Ever!
I can agree with your entire statement! 😀 So hyped!
Why is Tails always portrayed as being useless in these newer games? He kicked badnick butt in the classics, why can’t he fight with Sonic anymore?
Someone needs to give that guy a gun!
He wasn’t totally useless in Sonic Colors though.
Preaching to the choir, buddy…
Because that would mean letting someone else take center stage in this new “Sonic the only useful character” era we’re in now as of Unleashed. :V
Correction, it started with Sonic and the Secret Rings before Sonic Unleashed.
Exactly, it’s Sega’s way of keeping the Sonic games from getting too super-saturated with unneeded characters, by keeping the focus on pretty much just Sonic, so to curtail any temptation to get carried away with the misc. characters. The drawback of this is that some characters lose their influence so to allow Sonic to shine. I don’t necessarily like it either, but I can appreciate what Sega’s trying to do nonetheless, and it’s better than trying to force in more characters than the game can reasonably support. Anyway, I do like the cutscene, and it suggests a return to story in Sonic games, something Sonic, I feel, has always been good at.
Yeah, but now we’re taken from one extreme (Too many characters) to the other (no characters aside from Sonic.) There needs to be a middle ground, like say make only Sonic, Tails & Knuckles playable. If Sonic 3 & Knuckles is anything to go by, they each have enough of a unique characterization in gameplay that they feel different enough, and by keeping it to just those three, it wont get too saturated. Sonic can be the same as always, Tails can fly for a limited time, and Knuckles can glide to a slow decline and climb up walls.
It’s kinda cool to see Satoruiwata promoting to a Sonic title
