NiGHTS Appears as a Vehicle in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

NiGHTS Into Dreams getting a re-release isn’t the only NiGHTS-related news this week. SEGA revealed at Summer of Sonic that NiGHTS and Reala will both be playable in vehicle form in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. NiGHTS also appeared in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, but only as the flagman. Like all the other vehicles in the game they’ll transform into a plane when in the air and into a boat when in the water. A Nightopian can be seen driving NiGHTS and a Nightmaren is driving Reala.

The game will also feature a NiGHTS stage, one that goes through Spring Valley, Gilwings Lair and Wizeman’s boss arena. Both flying sections and water sections were shown. Gameplay footage can be seen here at this link beginning at 1:17:40. This post will be updated with a higher quality video when it is available.

Sonic Adventure 2 Coming to XBLA and PSN (And Probably Steam)

At this point this isn’t even news, but it’s been (pretty much) confirmed that Sonic Adventure 2 is indeed coming to Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. Just not by Sega, a page for the game has been set up on Xbox Live with 10 screenshots showing the game in widescreen. This means either someone at Microsoft messed up and that Sega is going to announce it really really soon, or just that someone at Microsoft messed up. The last of these screenshots shows the circle button of a Dualshock controller, so if you thought that this was going to be an Xbox Live exclusive for some reason there’s your confirmation that it isn’t. And seeing how all Dreamcast ports by Sega for XBLA and PSN have also been released on Steam, it can be expected that the game will be released on that as well.

There are some more details on the Xbox Live page for this HD re-release. It’ll have online leaderboards and there will also be some sort of DLC. Bets are on that they are going to sell the extra content from the Gamecube version for five bucks. The current release date is October 3rd, 2012, meaning you’ll have plenty of time to look for those nostalgia goggles you must have lying around somewhere. You can find the screenshots after the jump.

Here’s Some New Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Stuff

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w11wp1DNSwE

E3 isn’t upon us until tomorrow, but that hasn’t stopped game companies from showing new stuff during the week before. Like there’s a new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer, Sony announced Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and Sega revealed a bunch of new stuff for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. First off is the new trailer above showing the track based on Super Monkey Ball as well as the new characters Vyse from Skies of Arcadia and Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe.

Sega also announced that Shadow will return from the first All-Stars Racing game driving a tank this time around and that Joe Musashi from Shinobi on a quad bike is playable as well. New levels from Golden Axe and Jet Set Radio are shown in a couple of new screenshots which can be seen below.

And it wouldn’t be E3 without there being leaks. Sonic Wrecks accidentally uploaded a version of the new trailer showing the Wii U logo at the end, so it looks like future Wii U owners will be able to get this game for the system. As proof of this a screenshot of this was taken by Sonic Paradise, besides that Sonic Stadium made a post about it before it was removed.

Jet Set Radio coming to Playstation Vita

In addition to getting a re-release on Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and PC, the Dreamcast classic Jet Set Radio is getting a new portable version for the Playstation Vita. Like all the other new versions it’ll have a higher resolution than the Dreamcast version and it’ll be in widescreen.

The PS Vita will get one exclusive feature, and that is the ability to spray graffiti using the touch controls. The game will be playable at E3.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 Gets a Launch Trailer

It’s the release day of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, and to remind everyone of that SEGA has released a launch trailer for the game. The trailer shows just about everything not shown yet in other officially released media except for the final zone, so those wary of spoilers may want to avoid it:

The most interesting thing about the trailer is that it says “To be concluded…” near the end, hinting at what may be a third episode in the Sonic 4 saga®.

It also shows the release dates for most of the platforms the second episode releases on. It’s already been released on Steam and it will be released later today on Playstation Network. Xbox Live Arcade and Nvidia Tegra 3-powered devices will get the game tomorrow and iOS devices will get it the day after. It seems like the game won’t be available on Android devices without Nvidia Tegra until June. Windows Phone users will be able to buy it in July.

Windmill Isle Act 1 Released for Sonic Generations PC

The team consisting of Dario FF, Chimera and TwilightZoney have released the first act of the first stage of Sonic Unleashed, Windmill Isle, for the PC version of Sonic Generations. The purpose of this release is to test the mod on as many systems as possible. If it works on enough systems they’ll start to convert all of Unleashed’s stages. More details can be found in the following video and in the link that follows.

Here is the forum thread with details where it can be downloaded along with instructions on how to install it. Other credits go to JoeTE for ripping the songs, Korama for making CPKREDIR (which makes developing and using mods more efficient and easier) and MainMemory for making Generations Archive Editor (which does what the name implies). Like it was mentioned earlier, the intent for this release is to test it on as much hardware as possible. Meaning that you can help the development of the mod by posting the results of how it works on your set-up on the forums. Also post results if you mess around with it by doing stuff like combining it with other mods like Classic Sonic Adventures or some model swap you found on Youtube.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Has More Than Just Cars

The original Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing was a bit of a surprise, we hadn’t seen Sonic in a racing game with cars since the Sonic Drift games. It was also a pretty good game that received lots of praise from fans, so it makes sense that the spin-off title is getting a sequel. Like the title implies, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has vehicles that transform. During a race the vehicle changes into either a car, boat or plane whenever the track needs it to, making it more similar to Diddy Kong Racing than Mario Kart, which certainly isn’t a bad thing.

A trailer showcases this along with better graphics and a stage based on Panzer Dragoon, another stage based on Super Monkey Ball is shown in the screenshots. As for new characters, there’s Vyse from Skies of Arcadia and Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe (who was going to be in the first game but got scrapped) joining the roster, with more newcomers to be announced. Scripted events change the course every lap, which you could compare to Motorstorm Apocalypse, though much more colourful. The game’s soundtrack won’t just consist of old tracks, as they are remixed with composer Richard Jacques doing  some contributions. There’ll also be a story mode and the annoying commentator is no longer present.

IGN has a preview up with more details along with a video with some of the folks at Sumo Digital talking about the game with more gameplay being shown. The game will be coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and PC Digital Download later this year. Screenshots can be found after the jump.

Sonic Unleashed Blasts PCs to Pieces in Sonic Generations Mod

Two months ago, we posted some very promising videos from a triad of gifted Retroites working to import Sonic Unleashed‘s stages into the PC version of Sonic Generations, because despite Sega’s apparent new-found love for all things computer, Unleashed never got the chance to pop up. And those videos? They were nothing short of impressive work.

The trio–Dario FF, Twilightzoney, and Chimera–are happy to show you the fruits of their labor since then as Sonic zips around locales like Mazuri, Empire City, Shamar, and the original Spagonia to name a few. The team not only managed to get collisions working on the stages, they’ve been able to successfully import breakable objects and even the Global Illumination Ambiance lighting effects of the original stages so that they look like their original selves.

Oh, and a much-requested golden streak of light makes his in-stage presence felt as well.

Check out the gallery for more photos and the trailer below to watch their efforts in motion. Of course, from the looks of things, the team is only getting warmed up with Unleashed levels and have set their sights to other areas…

Phantasy Star Online 2 Coming to Playstation Vita

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5OMPhKLhXQ

The true sequel to the Dreamcast classic Phantasy Star Online is coming to the Playstation Vita. The portable edition will be the same as the PC version and will even support cross-platform play. This means that if you own the Vita version you can play the game with PC users. You’ll probably notice that it doesn’t look like the PS Vita can handle the game very well. That’s because this version is less than 10% complete and is currently running on the lowest settings, so it goes without saying that the graphics and framerate will be improved considerably.

While it hasn’t been announced if the game will be released in the west, the chance of it being localized is pretty big considering that most of the other games in the franchise did get released stateside. Phantasy Star Online 2 will be released in 2013 and is being developed by Sonic Team. After the jump is an older trailer of the game.

Sega will be releasing the title for PC platforms along with Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 slated for this summer. Sega has also revealed a handful of screenshots showcasing the widescreen presentation. Even without updating the graphics, the game still looks just as vibrant as it did before.

Up to 18 will be selected and will award those with a number of prizes including a Bluetooth, solar powered Rukus.  Details for the contest can be found at http://www.sega.com/jsrcontest
