Monday Links: Back Due To No Demand Edition

Yup, after half a year it’s been decided to make Monday Links a thing again. Many board meetings at the Sonic Retro HQ were held to discuss the return of this beloved (?) weekly (???) feature, and we finally decided that it’s probably not worth our time. Then we realized that handling a Sonic news fansite in this day and age isn’t really worth our time either, and that there really hasn’t been any point to anything we’ve put up on this front page for years now. So with that taken into consideration, Monday Links has returned after all, cause really it’s not any less pointless than anything else on the front page.

Greenman Gaming Brings SEGA Sales

Let’s say you’ve had the unfortunate streak of bad luck and have missed every Steam sale in the last three years. The folks of Greenman Gaming have you covered with several PC SEGA titles on sale, including Sonic Generations and Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed on deep discount. 2011’s tale of two hedgehogs will set you back $7.49, while Transformed (which you should totally have for our next community day… stay tuned!) is simply $4.99, or fast food value meal without the guilt and shame.
But for those a little tired of the blue blur, a few more SEGA titles are included in the week-long deal, such as the eccentric zombie slaying/typing combo The Typing of the Dead: Overkill ($6.79) or The Typing of the Dead: Overkill – Thou Filthy Love Collection ($8.49), which comes with three DLC released for the game, including The Filth of the Dead, which replaces the words and phrases in-game with terrible innuendos and outrageous insults. Those looking for something else can pick up the supposedly defunct SEGA Studios Australia’s 2013 remake of the Mega Drive classic Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse ($7.49).
As a side note, PS+ users with PS3s can nab Castle of Illusion free of charge and if done before April 28, comes with the Mega Drive original free of charge.

Tracy Yardley Charity Stream this Saturday

The following is a guest post from community member FTA.
On Saturday April 19th, Find The Computer Room will be teaming up with Packrat Comics in Dublin, Ohio to host a special charity stream for the one and only Tracy Yardley! We aim to start around 3pm EST, and it will be a fun filled event for people of all ages. We plan to spend time playing several Sonic games, talking about the Archie series and Tracy’s influential work on them over the years, and we’ll be airing an exclusive interview with the man himself!
In order to explain, let me pass over to the man himself:
To My Wonderful Fans,
Having worked with Archie Comics on the Sonic the Hedgehog comics has been a great privilege. Unlooked for, the good people of the Packrat Sonic Club of Packrat Comics in Hilliard, Ohio had a divine revelation that I could use some help and decided to run a benefit on my behalf. As some may know, I am the father of 5 children. My wife and I adopted 3 and had 2 of our own as well. By many standards I am a very rich man, but this last year has been trying in the money department. I know there are many out there who are in a much worse position that I am, but I’m very grateful for the help offered to me. I am continually awed by the love and encouragement I receive from my fans and I hope to help with future charity efforts to share the amazing goodwill that my fans have shown me.

Monday Links: SAGE Lives Edition

While we missed out on SAGE last year, it’s now finally time to take it out of its somewhat dusty box. SAGE Act 1 has started with some fangames and engines you may want to check out like Sonic Time Twisted, SonicGDK and Da Rock. Besides fangames, there are also live streams, an IRC chat and an Arts & Entertainment section.. This SAGE takes place from February 23rd to March 1st 2014, with a second act happening sometime later this year.

Tuesday Links: Available in Japan Edition

So those Sonic Boom announcements sure happened. It was probably the biggest Sonic-related announcement since they revealed Sonic Adventure. If you somehow missed it or want a brief summary of what was revealed, here’s the gist of it: SEGA of America has started a new branch to the Sonic franchise with the non-confusing name: Sonic Boom, which is basically a westernized version of Sonic with it’s own world and redesigned characters. Of this they’re making a TV show and two new games for Wii U and 3DS, all of which will be released later this year. In this universe Knuckles gets buffed up for real, Tails gets a toolbelt, Amy realizes that she’s been wearing the same clothes for years and Sonic wears a scarf for some reason. Also they all roll around in sports tape. Also it won’t replace the main series of games that Sonic Team is making.

Anyway, considering how many previews and interviews there are, Sonic Boom will get it’s own section this week. :

While I usually wouldn’t link to petitions for video games on Monday Links, this one has actually been acknowledged by SEGA and has a chance of resulting in something happening, so I’ll let this one slide. If you want to let SEGA know that you want games like Bayonetta, Vanquish, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Valkyria Chronicles and other such games on PC, go support it.
