Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed PC Gets a Hefty Update

asrtoctoberfourth8

Sumo Digital has shown more support for the PC version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed today by releasing a 370 MB update on Steam. This update addresses some big issues certain players had with the game. It includes an alternative INTZ Render for old cards that don’t support INTZ, bug and exploit fixes and VAC support. There’s a downside to this update as well though: because of the exploit fixes the leaderboards have now been wiped to get rid of suspicious times. You can read the full details about this update here.

An update for the console versions was also released last week, which fixed a bunch of stuff like a tuned down difficulty of Traffic Attack, Ring Race and certain Race events, exploit and bug fixes etc. A change log for that can be read here.

New Trailer for Ron Gilbert/Double Fine’s The Cave

SEGA and Double Fine just released a new trailer for The Cave. For those who don’t know what this game is, The Cave is an upcoming puzzle platformer by Ron Gilbert (The Secret of Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion) and Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts, Brütal Legend) that’s being published by SEGA. It’s going to be a lot like those old point and click adventure games, except with a lot less pointing and clicking and more moving left and right and jumping. You have to choose from three of seven characters at the start of the game, all of which have their own quirks. This new trailer showcases four of these characters, and another upcoming trailer will showcase the rest of them. The game can also be played with up to three players in local co-op.

This is a seperate project from Double Fine’s upcoming crowd-funded point and click adventure game Double Fine Adventure, though Ron Gilbert is working on that game as well. The Cave comes out January 2013 on Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, the Wii U eShop and Steam.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Includes a Christmas Present

It’s always cool when a game does something neat or unlocks something on a holiday, like with Christmas NiGHTS or Animal Crossing. Now it turns out Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has a secret unlockable that unlocks on Christmas day. This secret can be unlocked early by changing the date of your console to December 25th, 2012. This can be done on Xbox 360 and PS3, it’s not certain if this can be done on the Wii U version as well. You do need to sign out of Xbox Live before you do this though and when you sign back in, it’ll be as if you weren’t able to time travel one month into the future after all. We don’t know if the same goes for the PS3 version.

If you want to spoil the surprise, go ahead and change the date on your console or alternatively, just click the jump of this post.

PSA: All Stars Racing Transformed Has Game-Ending Bug

What can you say about launch day games? They’re usually the sloppiest, trashiest bits of data to hit a system if they’re not from a first party developer. It’s unfortunate that this is so with All-Stars Racing Transformed on Wii U. It seems a bug has been reported that essentially makes the game unplayable.

Those starting off the tour mode in single player find themselves at an impasse on the first boost challenge stage when the checkpoints you must pass through to extend time fail to load, essentially making the level on all difficulties unbeatable. There’s no getting around the stage either, leaving Wii U owners high and dry on the game.

This seems to affect all Wii U consoles that downloaded the update patch for the game upon boot up. Deleting the update data causes the system to redownload it upon booting up the game, and taking it offline will cause the system to complain at you to get an Internet connection to play the game.

If you’re deciding still which version to get, we highly advise staying away from the Wii U port until further notice.  Hopefully Sumo Digital and Sega are on top of this and working up another patch, but such a gross oversight on a release game is reprehensible and lazy. Come on, Sega, this isn’t 2006 anymore.

Here’s a Trailer for the Wii U Version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

With just a little over a week until the Wii U version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be sold in stores in the US, a launch trailer for this edition has been put out showcasing various things you can do on the fancy new Wii U that you can’t do on any of those other consoles. Footage of courses based on NiGHTS Into Dreams, Billy Hatcher and Jet Set Radio are also shown.

Besides this there’s also more news on this game from the past few week we were too lazy to report on forgot to make front page posts about. Trailers showing Wreck-It Ralph and Danica Patrick in the game were released, the 3DS and PSVita versions have been delayed until December and the PC version will be released sometime after the console versions as well. The achievements were unveiled and we got about half an hour of gameplay footage here. I think that’s about it. If you live in Europe you’ll have to wait until November 30th if you want to get the Wii U version but the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be released just one week from now on November 16th. If you live in the US these versions will be released a few days later on November 20th, except for Wii U which will come out on November 18th.

Battle Mode, Challenges and More Are Shown Off In This New Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Trailer

With the release of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed being a month and a half away, SEGA has started showing some new stuff for the game. First of they’ve released a new trailer (seen above) which showcases the world tour mode, challenges, online and local multiplayer and the battle mode. A The House of the Dead battle arena can be seen as well in the trailer. SEGA also released a bunch of new screenshots which confirm that Ulala from Space Channel 5 will be back in this game as well and they’ve shown what Danica Patrick and her vehicle look like in the game. All of these screens can be seen below.

Besides all of this stuff, SEGA just started a website for Transformed. Besides there being a neat animation of Sonic’s vehicle transforming, one of the backgrounds shows that Sky Sanctuary from Sonic & Knuckles will be one of the courses. You can also look at a bunch of old trailers and screenshots there if you want to.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Wii U Gameplay

Games Radar has uploaded a video showing the Wii U version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The video keeps up with the tradition that 90% of all people playing Sonic demos on camera suck. The course shown in the video is a new Seaside Hill track, a location which already had three courses in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing.

The player notes some issues with the version like that looking at the screen on the Wii U Gamepad is distracting and more importantly, that the framerate has trouble keeping up it at 30fps. Of course this is a work-in-progress build, so this will probably be fixed in the final version. (hopefully) The Wii U version will be available on the launch of the Wii U, which is November 18th in the US and November 30th in Europe.
