On this SEGA News Bits we discuss the news that spread through social media like wild fire. SEGA has announced that they would be moving on from licensing Sonic the Hedgehogcomics to Archie. It has been about six month since Archie Comics released a brand new issue of Sonic the Hedgehog and its multiple side series, but now with San Diego Comic Con closing in they finally let the cat out of the bag. On this episode we discuss what leaving Archie Comics could mean for Sonic the Hedgehog comics, what happened in the last story arc, what comic book publishers should take over, and what Archie Comics original characters we will miss if the series continues without them.

After 24 long years with plenty of ups and downs, the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter confirmed today that the Archie Sonic series has finally been put to rest. This comes after months of silence from both parties as the series was put on hiatus after 290 at the end of 2016. The comic has run alongside Sonic since 1992 and featured characters from both the video games and the Saturday Morning Cartoon.

On this SEGA News Bits, George and Barry fist bump their way through the recently revealed main theme to Sonic Forces. The track, titled “Fist Bump”, features vocals and lyrics by Douglas Robb of Hoobastank and is composed and arranged by Tomoya Ohtani. How does the tune compare to past title tracks? What do we think of the lyrics? Who… bastank?

SAGE makes its triumphant return on…
September 30th – October 7th!
For the uninitiated, there’s a whole dang page on the Sonic Retro Wiki with SAGE’s history here! Hit the jump for more information, including this year’s submission guidelines! Make sure to give them a thorough read, as a lot has changed this year!
Inside SEGA’s booth were a dozen demo stations for both Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces making their first and last E3 appearance. Con-goers did their best to pilfer posters given out any way they can. E3 was packed this year due to the convention allowing the public to enter for the first time in years which means the lines were more than double and that means plenty of eager people wanting to check out whats new.

It’s hard to believe that Sonic Mania is only a short two months away. It seems like only yesterday the game was first announced, a magical look at the Sonic experience that could have been on the Sega Saturn. When the digital pre-order trailer came out a couple weeks ago, some assumed that very little new content would be revealed in the days prior to E3. Yes, we’re a bit late to the party, but SEGA did announce a new level in style: Chemical Plant Zone.
Sure, you’ve watched it before, but there’s no shame in jammin’ out to that Act 2 music all over again. Hit the jump to see what else Mania has been up to as it speeds to it’s release.
What do you do when you have not one but two major releases coming out featuring the world’s most famous hedgehog? You spoil your audience by giving them a ton of information, whetting their appetite for what’s to come. And what better time to do that than at E3?
Slated for release during the 2017 Holiday season, Sonic Forces is the game that has baffled some and intrigued others. During the build up to E3’s opening day, SEGA has been sharing all sorts of new information regarding both Classic and Modern Sonic’s gameplay, as well as the new “Avatar” character. This has culminated in a reveal trailer that not only shows all three gamestyles off, but also reveals a new villainous character in the Sonic pantheon.

Woah hey wait what? E3 is only a week away? Dang man, that’s pretty cool. For those of you who will be in the area for the biggest video game event on the planet (or are still going to be around post a certain other convention from the day prior…) join us for food, drinks, and games over at Dave and Buster’s in Hollywood, CA the Monday before the big show, June 12th! We’ll be meeting there around 5pm Pacific (that’s UTC−8 for any of you Brits that might want to come!) and will likely close it out at midnight, should folks be willing to stay out that late. Feel free to pop in, have a few drinks, grab some grub, and try the completely ridiculous Mario and Sonic arcade game with us. Hope to see you there!
Just a heads up: There’s a lot of Dave and Buster’s locations in the Los Angeles area, make sure you’re headed to the one in Hollywood, California specifically!
