Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man Team Up in the Mobile World to Run and Chomp Once More

It’s hard to believe that the mobile title Sonic Dash is almost five years old. With over 100 million downloads and two sequels under its belt, the endless runner certainly shows no signs of stopping. To celebrate its anniversary, the official SEGA HARDlight Twitter account made a brief teaser video as to what they’d be doing to celebrate the occasion. Dialing up a certain spherical gaming icon, Bandai Namco tweeted a follow-up where none other than Pac-Man picked up the phone. Though they had previously tangled in the world of Super Smash Bros., the two titans have teamed up for a crossover that conveniently fits in your pocket.
Updating the app on your device of choice, players can now unlock Pac-Man for a limited time. Your vintage badniks have been replaced with the classic ghosts, and using the dash move even turns them blue! Sadly, we don’t get to see Pac-Man’s smiling face tackle Dr. Eggman, the evil genius being replaced with a giant ghost named Bash. Wearing a crown, the only guess is that maybe he’s a supercharged Inky? Though he doesn’t seem very bashful anymore if that’s the case.

Instead of being content with just one mascot hopping into another’s game, the two companies have gone that extra mile and done their own video game exchange program. Not only is Pac-Man running about Seaside Hill chompin’ on ghosts, Sonic the Hedgehog has jumped into the mobile version of Pac-Man. Running about a maze version of Green Hill Zone, the classic Motobug rolls about trying to stop Sonic from getting those rings and his animal friends. In Pac-fashion, the red badnik rolls about with pink, blue, and yellow variants, and turn that dark shade of blue if Sonic grabs an invincibility item box. Heck, one of the mazes even has the word “run” in it, so you know what’s up.
As with Sonic Dash, the Sonic maze in Pac-Man is only available for a limited time, so be sure to download both as soon as possible. Though with this new development, there’s one thing to consider…since both these games have had cross-promotions with Hello Kitty, how long until we get the ultimate crossover with all three having wacky adventures and solving mysteries? You know you want it to happen.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers Board Game Goes Live on Kickstarter

Sonic is no stranger to board games, but this latest outing looks to be the most ambitious yet. So much so, that the company behind the production, Shinobi 7, has just launched a Kickstarter to fund their new game. There’s quite a lot to take in from the Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers page, namely that the game features up to 5 playable characters, each with their own abilities and stats, and that the game features interchangeable tiles to vary up play, keeping it fresh each time.
The biggest thing to note, as with any Kickstarter, is what you’re actually buying. As of this writing, there’s only one tier for rewards, and that’s set at a somewhat pricey $100. Dropping that dough nets you a copy of the game, an exclusive Super Sonic character, and any “freebie” stretch goals that are unlocked. Speaking of which, stretch goals include more characters like Shadow and Blaze, though it’s worth noting that if they’re unlocked, you’ll have to pay more to actually obtain them.
The Battle Racers Kickstarter goes into more detail about how the game plays, so if that tickles your fancy, you can check it out. If funded, the game is expected to ship in October of this year.

This year the contest will be accepting hacks and mods for Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces for trophy eligibilityLast year these entries were denied trophies due to the short time available for development of mods and tools for these titles. The contest week is set for Monday through Sunday, 26th of November to the 2nd of December. RAGE (Really Amateur Games Expo) 2018 Returns January 28th!

RAGE (Really Amateur Game Expo) is, bar none, the greatest online convention in the history of the internet.

What is RAGE?

RAGE is a kind of, but not really, game jam, where creators can compete to produce the worst, goofiest fan game possible using whatever tools at their disposal. RAGE has always prided itself in having some of the worst games to ever exist, and we plan on continuing that tradition again this year. You can read more about RAGE on the wiki!

Are there like, rules or something?

You mean guidelines?

Yeah, Guidelines.

• Games need to stick to the theme, this is the most important requirement to note.
• Submissions need to be in by 11:59 pm CST on Friday, February 2nd.
• Send all RAGE submissions to [email protected]; submissions before January 28th will not be accepted.
• Games should really only be 5 – 10 minutes long. We’re not looking for an epic here.
• Feel free to use any engine/platform/program you like, just make sure it’ll run on modern day systems!
• If you don’t have something on hand, there’s trials of several commonly used programs, as well as free versions. Less experience might even help you here!
• Have fun with it! Sure you’re shooting for bad, but you’re wanting to make funny bad, like The Room or Birdemic of video games. (In other words, you’re aiming for humor, not just garbage.)

We’ll announce the theme of the game on January 28th. You have a short time to create and submit your game between there, so get ready to get crackin’! In the past, RAGE has been entirely for bragging rights (if you’re into that sort of thing) and making comical abominations. That’s all good and fun, but once again, we’re announcing a grand prize for RAGE’s first place winner:

A $50 Amazon Gift Card*!

We’ll be holding a livestream where we’ll play through every RAGE submission on the SAGExpo YouTube on Saturday, February 3rd at 7:00pm CST. Shortly thereafter, the RAGE site will go live so you too can witness the whiteness, with the RAGE winner announced on February 7th.

Brush up on your game making skills… or don’t! Either way, RAGE is back!

*Or your country’s equivalent of $50USD, should the winner be outside of the U.S.
