Sonic 2 Coming to iOS and Android Tomorrow With Hidden Palace Zone Intact

sonic2-hiddenpalacezone2-1

After missing it’s November release date, Taxman and Stealth’s remastering of Sonic 2 is finally coming to iOS and Android tomorrow. The delay is made worthwhile though with the addition of perhaps the most well known of the scrapped levels found in the beta versions: the Hidden Palace Zone. If you’ve played the duo’s Sonic 1 iOS/Android remastering, you probably know that they like to add other new stuff to the game. So you can probably expect other new features in this release as well.

If you already own the former Sonic 2 iOS port, you’ll be able to download this new version as a free update. This is the first time the game is released on Android though, so your only option is to buy it new when it comes to that platform. You can find a couple more screenshots of the remastering below.

Yogscast DLC Revealed for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

charityDLCTransformed

S0L has been teasing a new controversial character to be added to the roster of the PC version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Nothing has been set in stone as of yet, but according to a recent stream from the Yogscast, one of UK’s top Youtube channels. Recently Yogscast revealed that they’re pushing for a new Humble Bundle that is currently not active, but reportedly has the racer as part of the deal, in addition to their livestream that they revealed not only the bundle, but that there is charity DLC on the way for the PC version. They didn’t reveal what exactly it is, but given S0L’s comments, and what they mentioned and showed on the stream, which isn’t much, is that you get to play as Yogscast’s own Simon.

Now before you throw your rocks, keep in mind it is entirely for charity and not a deal of a Lets Play “celebrity” taking away a spot of a potential SEGA character. S0L also mentioned that there is more stuff on the way that would be bigger. But for now, this is whats set for December 6th, and they’re also giving away free copies of the game and putting the game as part of the Humble Bundle.

Do it for the children.

Sonic Xtreme Boss Footage Unearthed 17 Years Later

If you visit here a lot, you’ll likely know about Sonic Xtreme. The ill-fated Sega Saturn title went through a rocky development cycle before ultimately meeting its end not with a bang, but a whimper.

Still, it had its fair share of display around 1996 at venues such as E3 and to the press before hitting the end of the line. Thanks to some wonderful sleuthing by forum members Shoemanbundy and Andrew75, and spooie for finding and hosting the clip, we can now see one more bit of footage of the game, namely a boss fight, in action.

The clip in question comes from the mid-90s Canadian kid’s TV show, The Anti-Gravity Room. Beginning at the 3:44 mark, we can see the famous Metal Sonic boss fight in full action, and relatively clearly too.

Even More Sonic 3 Music Details Emerge

If it wasn’t enough that Gametrailers went digging for more information on Michael Jackson’s involvement with Sonic the Hedgehog 3, turns out there was more involvement by another certain pop singer of the eighties than anticipated.

On YouTube, Fervor Records has posted a few unreleased music tracks on December 11th, 2009 from the band “The Jetzons.” One track, named “Hard Times” shares a more than vague resemblance to the theme of Ice Cap Zone. In fact, it may as well be exactly the same thing. What is the cause of this? The keyboardist of the group, Brad Buxer would work on the title, along with Michael Jackson as he confirmed in this interview conducted in the same year. While he does state he is not sure what material the developers used in the game, turns out to be remnants of the unreleased song linked above. You can listen to the song side by side to Ice Cap thanks to a video provided by staff member Skyler here.

This piece of information will no doubt raise additional questions about who exactly did what with the music to Sonic 3, however this evidence adds to the ever growing mystery of the involvement of the two pop stars.

Special thanks also goes to staff member GeneHF for pointing out this information.

Sonic 2 Mobile Update, Transformed iOS Unveiled

Sonic 2 2013 CPZ

Sega announced today their Winter 2013 lineup features Sonic 2‘s mobile update and Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed for iOS. The two titles are joined by Rhythm Thief and the Paris Caper (which is fantastic and worth checking out if its 3DS counterpart indicates anything) and a new MOBA card game called Demon Tribe.

Sonic 2’s update brings the same enhancements that Sonic 1 received in the form of wide screen display, a smooth 60FPS gameplay, and a host of other enhancements such as high quality Mega Drive sounds, leaderboards and achievements. I’m sure most of you are wondering about the game’s two-player mode. While Sega’s said little about the title, title developer and connoisseur of vegemite Christian “Taxman” Whitehead offered a little tease.

“I’m pretty limited in what I can mention about Sonic 2 right now, but when the Press Release says that the game runs widescreen at 60fps, that applies to all aspects of the game… wink wink, nudge nudge,” Whitehead said.

The Transformed port for iOS will feature a refined World Tour mode to accentuate gaming on the go and also provides four-player local and online multiplayer.

Both titles are currently scheduled for release sometime next month. Grab some hot chocolate, a blanket, and your mobile device (these should undoubtedly make their way over to Android users too.) Sega is aiming to provide a comfy winter for mobile gamers. Let’s just hope Sonic 2 can make it in time for its Nov. 24th anniversary.

Sonic Lost World Demos For Wii U and 3DS Up On the eShop In Japan (UPDATE)

SLW_0430_1windy1_10

UPDATE: This week’s releases for the Wii U and 3DS eShop in the US and Europe don’t include the Sonic Lost World demo, so it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for it.

Those who want to try out Sonic Lost World before it releases may not have to wait long, as a demo for both the Wii U and 3DS was released on the eShop today in Japan. This means that it’s likely that a demo will also be released in the US and/or Europe tomorrow, because the eShop updates on Thursdays in those regions.

The Wii U demo includes the first Windy Hill Zone, while the 3DS demo includes a tutorial level and the first Windy Hill zone.

New Details On Michael Jackson’s Involvement With Sonic 3

Gametrailers’ released a new episode of their Mythbusters-for-gaming show Pop Fiction today about Michael Jackson’s involvement with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The first half of the video is a pretty good summary of what we know already along with links to where they get their info from (thanks for the hits GT), but at the 08:36 timestamp they begin to talk about their own research.

First off, they got to do another interview with Roger Hector, who stands by what he said in his interview from 2005. He also gives additional details on how Michael Jackson got to work on Sonic 3 and why his music was “pulled”. After that Gametrailers got an anonymous source to confirm that MJ did work on Sonic 3‘s music with again more details on what he did and a different account on why he wasn’t credited.
