Once thought to be an April Fools joke when it was announced, Shadow the Hedgehog is now available on PSN in Japan. It’s being released as a “PS2 Classic”, meaning it’s just the PS2 version running in an emulator. Do note that this was easily the worst version, so it might be best to get the game for Gamecube or Xbox instead. Or you can just ignore it and forget that it ever existed like I did until just now.
The classic hasn’t been announced for release yet in the US and Europe, but it can be bought using a Japanese PSN account for 1,200 yen.

Pass. Personally, I thought Shadow the Hedgehog was far worse than Sonic 06, and I think we can all agree that’s saying something.
That something may or may not be about that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald.
Nothing to see here.
I think I’ll stick with the plan of forgetting this game ever happened in the first place.
I already have it on GameCube (Wii) and and Xbox but it’s good to see this game is getting some love, I hope it comes out world wide but I really doubt it will.
It’s a shame that not everyone liked this game. I found this to be enjoyable game. 🙂
I actually had gotten all the A-Ranks in this game, But i lost that gamesave thanks to a previous memory card i had corrupting.
I’m probably one of the very few that likes this game. XD
I know it was bad, but i didn’t hate it because it felt like it played really well when I wasn’t using guns and my autistic sister wasn’t screaming at me to let her win in multiplayer.
It felt like Sonic Heroes without the shitty team mechanics.
What happened to the philosophy of getting rid of the crappy Sonic games? Also, is Sonic really popular enough in Japan now that they would try to sell this?
I don’t think Sega really wanted to “get rid of” crappy Sonic games, I just don’t think they wanted to waste cash restocking sub-par games. Now that this is just digitally distributed emulation, there’s probably not much of a risk to their profits or their image. I mean, if they wanted us to forget crappy Sonic games, Crisis City wouldn’t have had a level in Generations.
On the contrary, fans and Sega should never pretend these crappy games don’t exist. Otherwise we couldn’t try and prevent the same mistakes from being made again.
What next, Sonic 2006 as a digital download as well?
Come to think of it, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea. It’ll be a good opportunity to fix and finalize the game.
It’s an okay game, but the PS2 version? Didn’t it have clipping issues?
Siiiiiiiiigh.
Still a better game than ’06 and manages to be both much better and far worse than Heroes, but there’s really no point in releasing this again. None at all.
Also, 1200¥? That’s easily 12x the game’s actual worth. Pass.
“easily the worst version”
Why don’t you tell us why it’s the worst versi-oh, right. The PS2 was easily the worst. *heads to the Shadow the Hedgehog page*
I know I’m gonna tick someone off here, and I sincerely apologize for that, but I honestly didn’t have a good time with this game. The controls felt like Shadow was on ice, the the level design was very “Copy-Paste” (especially for the extra difficulties,) and the story seemed to have now idea where it was going–I mean, Black Doom is supposed to be Shadow’s “father?” Really? It doesn’t help that I’m not a fan of metal soundtracks or dark gritty atmospheres either.
As a sort of gaming apologist, I genuinely enjoyed Next-Gen as well as a little bit of Heroes; but as much as I want to defend Shadow, I’m just not gonna pick it up again.
Again, I know I might offend someone, and, for that, I apologize…~
This is real??!! What’s next is sonic 06 coming to psn, it was on games on demand for xbox 360, but removed in 2010 along w/unleashed.
I really did like this game.It had its faults but still good. Also anyone else notice this
Europe-Sonic Heroes
Japan- Shadow
US-Sonic 06 Complete Version(How it was ssupposed to for Digital Download) ?
Maybe…
Oh, we’re so proud of THIS game! *sarcasm*
This has got to be the worst use of a yu-gi-oh abridged joke I have ever seen.
What next? Hedgehogs in space?! Oh, wait…
