Sonic 4: Episode 2 Concept Art Round 2

Being Friday, Sega continues what they promised last week, issuing out yet another round of concept art to hype up Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. Doing what they did last time, we get the deluxe version of concept art for one with both the black and white and color sketches, while the Facebook exclusive image only comes in the final colored form.

The first featured is the multicolored Fullboar, who will certainly fulfill your pig-badnik needs. The other is the Facebook exclusive “Steelion,” whose name is all sorts of pun. Normally I’d go into super commentary mode, but there isn’t much to say except, hey, they are new enemies. See you next week!

Looking at the pig badnik made me think it was a remake of the black pig badniks in Angel Island from sonic 3…..

Am I the only one that sees that they are loosely based off 2 bosses from Sonic 2 8-bit? :V

I thought they broke their promise.

Yay! Originality! I think… Yeah. Woop originality!!! The only real worry I have for episode 2 lately is that the ‘new physics engine’ is still going to be a mess. To be honest, i could have lived with ep 1’s terrible level design if the physics were better. Fingers crossed though.

Yeah, I´m still amazed on how many people haven´t seen it the first time looking at the pictures. They are clearly based on them.

    Sweet! Sonic 2 baddies!

I’m gonna bust a gasket if this means Aqua Lake and so on will be in Episode 2. All will be forgiven, Sega.
I doubt it, though, as they are trying to bill this as a new game, and they’ve never, ever, reused Zones outside of Sonic Generations. I can dream…

    Original? LIES!, SEGA, LIES!!!

You may have thought we’d forgotten about it but these are mods / reashes from the zone Bosses in Sonic 2 from the Master system!! (I would say Game Gear too but nearly everyone got stuck and gave up at the stupid 1st boss in underground zone so never played on!!)

Specifically The Green Hill Zone Boar, and the Aqua Lake Zone Seal!!

(Aqua lake – now THAT would have been great in Generations!)

I didn’t hear SEGA say they’re orignal it’s the fans so why blame the whole freakin’ company for “lying”? Rofl.

The Green Hill Zone Boar had arms and legs, this one looks more like the Gimmick Mountain Zone Boar (and now that I think of it… two boar-shaped bosses in a row, they clearly weren’t as inspired towards the end).

Green Hill Zone in Sonic 2 MS/GG never had a boar badnik. Did you mean Gimmick Mountain?

  • Reply

    *cough Gimmick Mountain Zone cough*

I wonder if their resemblence to the 2 bosses in Sonic 2 GG is deliberate…welp it’s gonna go relatively unnoticed since 9/10 people never beat the first boss of that game

I’m sure 90% of people didn’t even know those bosses exsited. I’ll admit, I even forgot about the seal from Aqua Lake, and I beat Sonic 2 on Game Gear (thanks to Gems Collection that is).

The boar attacks by speeding around and the seal attacks with jects of water or jets of bubbles shooting from its mouth I would bet. That or they use an old Donkey Kong COuntry trick and use the badnik to cool boiling water so you can pass through into the stage.

The cooling water thing would be awesome, but that feels a bit too creative for Sega at the moment. :B

I want Steelion to stop the Homming Attack and play with Sonic in ball form :3

I would love that so freaking much.

Hell, yes, it was Gimmick mountain zone with the boar. got confused with that “pig” / armadillo thingy in the green hill zone one….tut tut!!

While we’re at it I think Sonic Chaos needs looking at for some ideas – and triple trouble too; they were pretty good games despite the rather limited graphics and so-so sales figures (well so-so compared to Sonic 3 and S&K for the Mega Drive)

I agree with MasaSys, that would be awesome, and maybe it could be used to gain extra height, but then it might just end up how those shield badnics ended up being used for in Generations 3DS and Episode 1.

Even if the new badniks look similar to the badniks in previous Sonic games it doesn’t really matter (I have never played the master system games). As long as the new ones have some clever gimmick which will occasionally make you loose rings then thats what counts.

mm! i think it is always possible that they held off on game gear appreciation in s.g. so they could do so here?

Steelion? Sounds like a slightly less awful Gen 5 Pokemon.

Well Sonic Team was already looking into stages from other games as references, Music Plant from Sonic Advance 2 specifically, so…

Could we see something next thursday as its GroundHOG day?just like in 2010 STH:E1 teaser with gameplay was releashed on that day

So….No WiiWare release announced? Meh. Maybe it’ll pop up on Steam.

WiiWare is confirmed to not be happening. Nintendo’s limitation of 40MB is too much.

Anyone else ever notice that Sonic badnik names sound just like Pokemon games?

You guys seem like you’re never pleased. Obviously some badniks are going to be similar to previous ones, there’s only so many animals on the Earth. Will you all be happy when there are Chewbaccas badniks? That’s never been done

am I the only one who’s reminded of Aqua Lake boss fight from Sonic 2 SMS when looking at “Steelion” enemy?

  • Reply

You’re forgetting that these guys are regular enemies, NOT BOSSES. In terms of their function they’ll be nowhere near as tough.

  • Reply

That Steelion enemy/Badnik reminds me of Rotor.
