Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition Comes to Europe, Is Already Out of Stock

hoshino-san-approves-of-mania-ce
That swanky looking Sonic Mania collector’s edition is coming to Europe, Sega announced today. It’s exactly the same package that North America is getting, but there are a couple of caveats.
The first being that some might find it a bit overpriced. While the CE retails for $69.99 in the US, it costs a whopping £79.99 in the UK and €89.99 in the rest of Europe. So really you might not be paying much less than if you’d be importing the thing from the US. Secondly, it appears that it’s only available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PC version being left out. Which is a bit weird seeing how Sega Europe usually tends to put most of their focus on PC games.
Aside from that, you’re still getting everything the US is getting here. The collector’s edition is now available for pre-order exclusively on Amazon… or at least it was, but it appears to have gone out of stock everywhere except for in Germany while I was writing this article. Seriously:
outofstock
Welp. Anyway, here are the links to the Amazon store pages in case the CE becomes available again.

We hope that the collector’s edition will be in stock again later. Hopefully as soon as Sega realises that they might have underestimated demand.

Update (10-18-2016) – The collector’s edition is available for pre-order again, unless you live in Spain where it’s not available yet.

UPDATED Sonic Mania Brings the Genesis Aesthetic with the Collector’s Edition for North America

cspst85vyaehupm
UPDATED (9/14/2016) Pre-orders are now available through GameStop.
GameStop [PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC]
SEGA continues enticing us with the release of Sonic Mania by announcing a collector’s edition with a statue base of Sonic standing atop a Genesis (With an actual power switch that will yell SEGA!! at you,) a Genesis cartridge cast with a golden ring as well as the download code on a metal card. Priced at $69.99 these sets will release for all announced platforms for it’s spring 2017 release. While the Sonic social media accounts point to the official Sonic website for a pre-order page, at the time of this writing the website does not appear to be working and is instead directing everyone to Amazon to get their orders in.
Amazon [PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC]
I’m a little surprised that the system isn’t replicating a SEGA Saturn, but let’s face it, with the game’s history being reflected on the Genesis (Without a SEGA CD or 32X mushroom head attachment, mind) it’s more than appropriate. Of course for some of you reading this, you may be wondering about a European release, and according to several sources it has been confirmed that there is no plan to do so. Strange, especially after the collector’s set for Sonic Generations was Europe only, it’s an odd move on their part. Nintendo fans are potentially equally bitter as not even the game itself is coming to any of their platforms.
It’s unsure when these sets will sell out, but there is still plenty of time before it’s release in Spring of 2017.

The Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Island Finally Has A Name

xIUYW
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has been previewed, played, reviewed, picked apart, dissected and a whole host of other actions. We’re not here today to do any of those things. This article isn’t about how Sonic 4 Episodes I & II played or the behind-the-scenes politics of how the game came about. This article is about how a few fans with too much time on their hands bothered SEGA enough about silly little details.
Way back in 2010, SEGA revealed Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and speculation ran rampant. How would it play? How would it tie to Sonic 3 & Knuckles? Could we expect a Sonic 4 Happy Meal? These and many more questions were asked. Now, six years later, many of those questions have been answered and with the upcoming Sonic Mania, fans are looking towards the future while Sonic 4 Episodes I & II remain in the past. But one little question has always gone unanswered, and that question is “What is the name of the island in Sonic 4?”. Following the game’s release, I reached out to SEGA for an answer, but I came back with just a few names of the bosses from Episode II. We tried again last year in an interview with Aaron Webber, but aside from his own head canon answer there was no apparent official name.

SoS 2016 – The Kickstarter Edition

001-welcome_to_sos16It’s been three years since the last Summer of Sonic, but this year the UK-based Sonic the Hedgehog convention was brought back for “One More Run” thanks to a Kickstarter campaign that reached half the requested amount inside 5 hours, and smashed the intended target by over another 50% on top. Clearly the fan demand was still there 3 years on, and excitement about the show reached fever pitch when it was confirmed shortly after the 25th anniversary party in San Diego that our friends at Sega America had generously supplied some demo pods for Summer of Sonic – attendees would be the first in Europe to play the hotly anticipated Sonic Mania. So, how’d the event go? Let’s find out, shall we? Continue Reading
