Windy Valley Beta Restoration Released for Sonic Adventure DX PC (2004)

Back in 1998, our first glimpse of Sonic Adventure showed what would be the first true 3D experience with Sonic and friends. After the game’s release, the level we were told was Windy Valley was nowhere to be found in the final game, instead having been completely reworked before hitting store shelves. Even though shots of the original design were used to advertise the GameCube rerelease Sonic Adventure DX, the original look and feel of Windy Valley became one of the holy grails for Sonic enthusiasts interested in the development process.
After the retrieval of the AutoDemo, work has been performed by several people including many dedicated members of the Retro community, who have pooled their efforts to get these stages back up and running. Finally, after fifteen years we can witness this one of a kind experience with a mod for the 2004 PC edition of Sonic Adventure DX, with a fully playable beta version of Windy Valley. With recreated graphics and fully functioning camera angles, CorvidDude wants you to jump over to his YouTube video for more information as well as instructions on how to download and install the mod. Special thanks go to CorvidDude, MainMemory, ItsEasyActually, Catley, Melpontro, and many more who were involved with this project.

44778-1397222927

SEGA and Sumo Digital have answered the demand for an official release of the soundtrack for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. While it has featured a physical release in Japan on two CDs, you can buy each CD digitally through your choice of Apple’s iTunes store or on AmazonMP3. Each CD is available for $9.99 USD, (Or $9.49 on Amazon at the time of this writing,) and£7.99 GBP, or you can purchase tracks individually.

  • iTunes (Disc 1) [US] [UK] (Disc 2) [US] [UK]
  • Amazon Mp3 (Disc 1) [US] [UK] (Disc 2) [US] [UK]

For someone like me that’s been listening to this soundtrack in the most cumbersome way possible, (Try hooking up your phone to your car stereo and hoping all four G’s of your data connection can play songs off of YouTube and not stop to buffer every so often,) this could not have come at a better time for me.

Thanks to Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett and Retro Staff Member GerbilSoft for providing links to the soundtrack. If you’d like a complete listing of the songs, head over to VGMDB.

Greenman Gaming Brings SEGA Sales

asrtoctoberfourth1Let’s say you’ve had the unfortunate streak of bad luck and have missed every Steam sale in the last three years. The folks of Greenman Gaming have you covered with several PC SEGA titles on sale, including Sonic Generations and Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed on deep discount. 2011’s tale of two hedgehogs will set you back $7.49, while Transformed (which you should totally have for our next community day… stay tuned!) is simply $4.99, or fast food value meal without the guilt and shame.
But for those a little tired of the blue blur, a few more SEGA titles are included in the week-long deal, such as the eccentric zombie slaying/typing combo The Typing of the Dead: Overkill ($6.79) or The Typing of the Dead: Overkill – Thou Filthy Love Collection ($8.49), which comes with three DLC released for the game, including The Filth of the Dead, which replaces the words and phrases in-game with terrible innuendos and outrageous insults.  Those looking for something else can pick up the supposedly defunct SEGA Studios Australia’s 2013 remake of the Mega Drive classic Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse ($7.49).
As a side note, PS+ users with PS3s can nab Castle of Illusion free of charge and if done before April 28, comes with the Mega Drive original free of charge.
For other deals offered, check out greenman gaming’s page.

SEGA Channel Retro Highlights: Sonic Lost World Zelda DLC and Sonic on your PC

On our most recent SEGA Channel Retro stream, we got to check out the DLC for the recently released Legend of Zelda Zone for Sonic Lost World. If you think that’s old news, then how about going old school? We also took a look back at SEGA’s attempts at bringing the blue blur to PC with sister site SEGAbits during their Genesis month with a look at Sonic & Knuckles Collection and Sonic 3D Blast (Or Flickies Island if you’re THAT guy…) complete with the awkward bonus stages. We even got a look at SEGA Smash Pack 1 and 2 on PC that features an interesting, exclusive screen resolution for the 2 Player VS. mode in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. All this and more is currently rehosted on our YouTube channel. You can also watch the original, uncut stream on our Twitch page here.

Another New Character Added To Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed PC

An update for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed just got released on Steam, and surprisingly it contains another new character. However Hatsune Miku fans will probably be disappointed as this is yet another PC exclusive character, meaning it’s probably from another PC-exclusive franchise. This time it’s…

asrtrome5

Some guy from Total War: Rome II, which is coming out next month. Like General Winters this character was likely added in to promote Creative Assembly’s new game. Still, even if you don’t want to play as him you can’t really complain about more free characters. To play as him you just need to let Steam download the new update, after which he is added to the roster. Screenshots can be seen after the jump. Continue Reading

Every Sonic Game on Steam is 75% Off

Remember that weekend deal on Steam where every Sonic game was 75% off? Well, that deal is back as a daily deal during the Steam Summer Getaway Sale. Games on Steam include Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Sonic Generations, Sonic CD and fan-favorite (sigh) Sonic Adventure 2. There’s also a collection with all Sonic games on Steam which is still the cheaper option, though it hasn’t been priced off. Click here for the sale.

Besides this, SEGA also added Steam Trading Cards to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which you can get by either playing the game, trading them or by buying them on the Steam Community Market. Valve has put up this handy page that tells you how these trading card things work.
