Classic Sonic Game Montage

This is a pretty cool video courtesy of Arcane on the forums earlier today. It’s a montage of all the classic Sonic games played in sequence–normally about a 5 hour task–condensed into about 10 minutes. It’s pretty fun to watch and really brings the length and content of the classic games into perspective. It also makes you realize how short Sonic 2 is compared to pretty much everything else. Now all it needs is Sonic CD!

Michael Jackson Involvement with Sonic 3 Confirmed

Often speculated and argued, Michael Jackson’s involvement with Sonic 3 has finally been confirmed by way of composer Brad Buxer in an interview by Black and White magazine.

B&W: Can you clarify the rumor that Michael had in 1993 composed the music for Sonic 3 video game, for which you havel been credited?

Buxer: I’ve never played the game so I do not know what tracks on which Michael and I have worked the developers have kept, but we did compose music for the game. Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that’s what I did.
And if he is not credited for composing the music, it’s because he was not happy with the result sound coming out of the console. At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music…

B&W: One of the surprising things in this soundtrack is that you can hear the chords from Stranger in Moscow, which is supposed to have been composed later…

Buxer: Yes, Michael and I had composed those chords for the game, and it has been used as base for Stranger in Moscow. […]

Little Big Planet getting Sonic Sackboys.

Sack SonicAlthough they don’t seem to be available yet on Sony’s US Playstation Network store, it appears that Sega’s cracked a little deal and there is now Sackboy costumes for some of your favorite and not-so-favorite Sonic characters! These include Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles, Werehog and Dr. Eggman Costumes. For the most part though, I’m simply curious how the licensing worked out on this one. In any case, this is a nice win for Sonic fans on the PS3 that play Little Big Planet. At least if you’re in the right region for now. Need a Light?

Sega Genesis ZippoI don’t smoke. Actually I hate smoking and I can’t wait until the day comes that no one ever smokes again. However I do really like cool lighter designs. There are a lot of eye-catching little gimmicks and I can’t help but play with them when I go on a vacation and see them in a store. Today SEGA made my day when I saw this get posted up. Right now, they’re offering what appears to be two collectible zippo lighters designed after the SEGA Genesis and the SEGA Saturn. Sadly, they’re quite expensive but what do you want for a collectible that will warm you with fire and a nostalgic heart? Get’em while they’re hot!
