Your Sonic 4: Episode 2 Roundup

This week has been quite the interesting one for those looking forward to Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. Without the teasing of weeks of teasing announcements, a playable build of the game shows up out of nowhere in Barcelona, subsequently played by people who apparently have never touched a videogame in their life. The offical English homepage of the game was updated. And of course, even though it doesn’t seem nearly as vital any longer, another round of concept art was uploaded onto Sega’s blog and Facebook page. So, without further ado, let’s jump head first into the madness.

Watch Someone In Spain Play Sonic 4: Episode 2

It isn’t a secret that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 is coming to just about everything under the sun. One particular release they have been pushing, though, is the version that will be on Android devices, specifically those with the NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor. After all, it was an earlier conference with NVIDIA that was originally meant to unveil the logo to Episode 2 (though that didn’t actually happen). Well, at the Mobile World Congress 2012 currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain, this cross promotion has allowed a playable build of the game to be on the show floor. And where there are playable builds of Sonic games, there are men and women with video cameras ready to capture every second!

Sonic 4: Episode 2 Japanese Website Updates, Screenshots Galore

Earlier today, Sega of Japan decided to update their website for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. Though the splash page teasing the unveiling of the site has been there for a bit, the doors finally opened. Yes, it does feel similar to the Episode 1 site layout, but that’s more then likely intentional. With badniks and rings floating in the background, you can take a gander at Sylvania Castle and White Park all you want!

More Sonic 4: Episode 2 Shots, Straight From The Source

It was only a couple days ago when we finally got our first glimpse at Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. Sure, maybe we weren’t supposed to see it yet, but that doesn’t really matter anymore. Especially since Sega’s official blog has decided to do their own public reveal of the game, with screenshots aplenty. We may not know if their original plans for letting out all this information has changed because of the Xbox Live showing, but either way we finally get a better look at what is to constitute Sonic’s latest romp in 2D.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 Screenshots Released on Xbox Live Marketplace (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The release date was spotted on Xbox Live as well shortly before it was removed along with the screenshots (which were re-uploaded later on). If the date is correct, we should be seeing this game as early as May 16th.

While it’s entirely possible we weren’t supposed to see these just yet, we were warned by Ken Balough we’d see some interesting things in the next couple of weeks regarding the one Sonic title we definitely know is coming: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. And with no fanfare whatsoever, we can now see, at the very least the visual style they are going for in the next chapter of the “Sonic 4 saga.”

Oh man, they even pulled the original Tornado out of storage for this one. Remember, the reason it says Sonic on the side is because it was Sonic’s plane in the first place.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 Concept Art: Week 4

It’s that time again! Friday has once again made its merry way, and what do we get? More Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 concept art! We were spoiled a bit last week, seeing as we got two days in a row of conceptual Sonic the Hedgehog imagery thrown at us, so this week Sega has decided to scale things back to normal, with the black and white/color combo of the main attraction at their official blog, with the Facebook side dish. So, what do we get today?

Seems not every badnik we’ll be fighting off will be original. If that fish looks familiar, just one glance at his name will tell you why. Meet Chop Chop (or simply Piranha if you want to be Japanese for a day), the blue fish that would love to rush at you back in Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s Aquatic Ruin Zone. Unless he’s learned how to fly, you can expect to trend some water in the next installment, so those who have a fear of the drowning music best get prepared now. He has been slightly redesigned since we last saw him, with the brand new addition of eyes.

The bonus piece of art is simply being called the “Flip Platform,” so make of that what you will. Yes, that bottom does kinda look like a bumper. But who yet knows if it is, or simply something interesting to look at while running through the game? I’m sure we’ll find out how it all comes together at some point.

Another Round of Sonic 4 Episode 2 Concept Artwork

Yesterday’s boss artwork reveal didn’t stop SEGA from continuing their weekly Concept Art Friday series, as they have revealed another couple of all new badniks to those that bother to check their official blog or Facebook page.

First up is Scarabesque, which like the name suggests is a scarab-badnik. This one pushes a ball around and seemingly rolls it at Sonic as his attack. Second is a new, more menacing looking version of the Sandworm from Sonic & Knuckles, it having prolegs suggests it can crawl around instead of just jump out of the sand. Considering these badniks are both desert themed, it’s easy to conclude that the game will have a level themed after the desert as well. For more concept art goodness, check back next week as SEGA has shown no sign of stopping with these yet.

Sonic Boom & Summer of Sonic 2012 Announced, Bonus Sonic 4 Concept Art

Eighteen years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released to the masses. No one bothered to ask Sonic if he saw his shadow (and if he did, if it was just a generic circle or in his actual silhouette), but because of how important that release was all those many years ago, Sega has been using the date to psyche up whatever hedgehog-related items they’ve been working on. Last year, they teased the 20th Anniversary. The year before was right around the time Sonic 4: Episode 1 was announced. This year, we have not one but three Sonic-related prizes on the ol’ Sega blog. Yes, it wasn’t too hard to guess something Sonic 4 related was going to be there, but the other two may come as a bit of a surprise, as some people questioned if they were ever going to happen again. Yes, Sega has confirmed that the fan-favorite-fan-gatherings Sonic Boom and Summer of Sonic are indeed returning for 2012.
