E3 2012: Danica Patrick Drifts into Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed

With E3 now in full swing, the buzz has been on what new reveals will headline the next year, particularly on Nintendo’s new Wii U. One such game includes Sega and Sumo Digital’s newest party racer in Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed.

In usual E3 flare, Sega kept a surprise announcement for the show as they revealed a car hidden under wraps smack in the middle of their booth. Game Trailers TV blew the secret early while interviewing NASCAR racer Danica Patrick that she will be a playable character in the upcoming game in a Sega-themed NASCAR car. Patrick will also apparently be driving this car in NASCAR events to help promote the game.

And here we were hoping that Sega pulled the trigger on having Daytona USA‘s Hornet as its own racer. At any rate, stay tuned for more E3 updates as they roll in as our own Slingerland is on hand at the show.

What a way to promote a video game, Sega! 😀

Nice looking car, it’s just a shame it’ll be running mid pack (if lucky). Let’s just say, someones transition from open wheel isn’t fairing so well….but that’s hype for you.

    That isn’t Hank Hill.

No, it’s better… I was in love with Danica before… Even more so now. God good, I might start watching NASCAR now.

WHY THE f$%^ IS SONIC IN A BOAT?!?!? WHERE IS THE NEXT GAME AFTER GENERATIONS. HAVE THEY EVEN ANNOUNCED ANYTHING YET?

This is Sega’s big Sonic related title for the year. They’ve another one waiting in the wings already spoiled by Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb.

Glad to see that of the characters they could have put in, they go with a real life NASCAR driver.

    Stay classy SEGA

I have to say Im very disappointed. On a side note it seems no one mentions any of SEGAs work on the Saturn. Bug! and Clock Work Knight.

Oh that Sega, but with all seriousness I really don’t mind, I mean really when it comes down to it it’s the equivilent to the first game where they had your Mii/XBL avatar as a playable racer

I still don’t understand this one. Just so absurd.

    Sonic and NASCAR All-Stars Racing?

Hurgh. I’d really hoped they would have picked a driver/team that could put a SEGA themed car in victory lane. Danica’s a great marketing tool as she generates a lot of attention, but she also crashes almost every race in both Sprint Cup and Nationwide. This looks to be a Nationwide car, but that doesn’t make the prospects much better.

They should just stop trying so hard and do a racing game like the one’s that were really popular. Ridge Racer Unbounded just got the Hornet, why not this? Why isn’t there a HD remake of Virtua Racing yet? Sega have dropped back a little, they had the pace when they HD-ified Daytona USA…

I, for one, like the move. Sure, I could do with some Daytona USA love, but maybe Daytona USA tracks are on their way.

Here’s hoping that the superstar move is akin to Hornet’s appearance in Fighter’s Megamix.

Well, this is a shock. At least I don’t have to waste time making a Danica Patrick Mii that I probably wouldn’t use for anything else. I’m really wondering what her boat and plane modes are going to look like, and if NASCAR will be taking notes.

Takenobu Mitsuyoshi should be playable. He should drive the hornet and when he turns into plane mode he’ll be like “I want to fly sky high”.
