Some Brief Details For Sonic Generations 3DS Revealed

After the last unexpected reveal for what is hiding out in Sonic Generations for the 3DS, it isn’t hard to believe that maybe some people might be slightly more interested in what is contained in the DIMPS-produced companion to the main event taking place on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Even though not much new has been revealed, Nintendo’s official U.K. site has gone into some more detail, including offering a handful of new screenshots for the Casino Night Zone meant to represent Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Among what has been announced is how the 3DS’ street pass system will be used, allowing new content to be unlocked including missions meant to test your skill. What sorts of missions? Beats me. But a 2-player mode has also been officially announced, a multi-card mode while allows you to race against a friend to see who can be the first to win, ala the 2-player modes in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3.

There’s also mention of a coin system to unlock new content as well, most likely for those who don’t live in Japan and the street pass system doesn’t actually pick up anyone for weeks at a time. But why coins? C’mon Sega, you know Sonic uses rings. Don’t confuse yet another generation who can’t tell the difference!

Either way, who can really wait for some more pinball goodness? Just as long as we don’t have to go through Spinball’s Showdown again, I’ll be fine…

    Mushroom Hill looks sexy.

Why coins? Because of the 3DS’ coin system. The Game System itself has a built in coin system where you earn a max of 10 a day, and can use them in games like Find Mii or Puzzle Swap.

      Someone didn’t get the joke…

The joke was poorly executed and I’m pretty sure Glaber just explained why.

Still disappointed there aren’t enough background elements to make the levels not seem flat. Oh well, for a 3DS version the screens still look nice.

Download the 3DS pics with a 3DS. It’ll look like you’ll have the game!

Does Sonic Retro know that when somebody posts a comment on here, when you wait for it to be posted, it says “please wait a comment”. O_o?

    AWESOME!!!

but wtf dude you hate Sonic Spinball!? Lol you n00b, that game rock!!! \m/

It’s not that we hate Spinball (Though I’m not fond of it myself) It’s the god-forsaken showdown level. Lord knows how many dead Sonics reside in there…

lol yeahh.. True, the showdown.. That level was such a bitch, getting all the emeralds there and getting to the top and fight Robotnik that is, and if you fall have to freaking go all the way back and face ‘Buttnik again… Other than that, I think the music, badniks, and the level design is pretty badass.

Personally, I was kinda hoping they’d find a way to fit Spinball into Generations. I’d love to see a Modern version of Toxic Caves.

With actual gameplay, not Pinball stuff :V Imagine running on some purpley-blue-ish ground with all this toxic waste around you, and everything glows a tiny bit.

lol I laughed at the “coins” part, and I agree with you in which Sonic should never collect coins =P

That said, I’m loving the 3DS version more and more now, and while I already plan on getting both versions, I really hope SEGA would consider making the 3DS levels for the HD one as DLC in the near future, even if they kept the same layout I’d still like playing them in HD 😀

Sonic 3 2P mode, eh? This should be interesting, I always liked it and hopefully it’ll play more like Sonic 3 and less like Sonic Rush!

I think they mean PlayCoins, though I’m going by memory from Sonic Stadium’s article a few days ago.

Still not sure if I’ll get 3DS version. Also, this is kinda old news by now. Sonic Stadium put this up a few days ago :V

We’ve been a little busy with stuff as of late, both for the site and real life stuff, so we’ve not been on top of things as we would like to be. If Stadium throws it up first, that’s cool. But I’m just letting you all know what’s up here if you notice we’re being sluggish.

Did you really just ask “Why coins”? You clearly don’t know anything about a 3DS…

    • Reply

      The Play Coins system, correct?
The games I know that use this at the current moment are (now) Generations, Pokémon Rumble Blast (Super Pokémon Scramble in Japan) and the StreetPass Plaza minigames.

Some say that the second screenshot is the Sonic Hadouken, dunno why.

      I fear Sonic’s Shinku Hadouken

Beautiful graphics. It pops out without even being in 3D.

I’d actually like to see a sequel to spinball made, maybe as a 3DS game or Xbox live arcade. I know it gets a lot of crap, but I spent hours playing that game, and when I bust out my genesis it’s the only game I still play besides the “cannon” sonic games. I absolutely love sonic spin ball.

Time for me to get a 3DS…

Price drop should help, though I’m not surprised Nintendo made one that quick (make me furious).

You’ve got to love how DIMPS turned a great classic stage into a straight line.
Even Sonic Team can’t do that.
