New Shots of Chemical Plant, And A Whole Lot More

Ever since the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu unveiled the look of the Chemical Plant Zone that will be featured in Sonic Generations, everyone has been hoping for clear shots straight from the source, something we’ve taken for granted in this Internet world of ours. Well, on Sega’s Flickr stream, we’ve finally got them. And yes. It look so very, very nice.

Look at that. Glowing purple water, the sometimes-named Mega Mack. You can’t get any better than that. Or can you?

Oh yes. Yes you can.

In addition to the glory that is Chemical Plant, we also get to see Metal Sonic getting ready to fight the blue blur himself. With no giant monster-form in sight, even! And yes, do not be fooled by imitation highways. That is indeed the background of the Stardust Speedway Zone, corrupted by the mad villain Eggman in the bad future. So now we can all stop arguing about that…and instead argue about how the song will go.

We also get to see Miles “Tails” Prower as we haven’t seen him since 1997 – in his full-on classic form, probably waiting for all the ladies to scoop him up and give him some mint candy. He knows how to play this game. Why do you think he had unlimited lives when he followed you, anyway?

Finally, Sega has released a fun, if slightly late, video celebrating his 20th anniversary. Not featuring anything we haven’t seen, it’s always nice to see old Sonic footage, right? I guess I should mention the inclusion of Sonic CD and Secret Rings, and the omission of certain titles like Sonic 3D: Flickies’ Island and Black Knight. I’d like to say its revisionist history, but Sonic ’06 is featured in full form.

Look below for a gallery of the brand new shots released by Sega, or you can go to their Flickr stream yourself, seeing it in larger resolutions, including 5120 x 2880 resolution. So you can see pixels you’ll never see while you’re playing it. Unless you have a really big TV, I suppose.

Also, be sure to check out the new sonicthehedgehog.com. No longer a redirect to Archie‘s website, it looks to be the successor to the now-defunct Sonic Central of days past, the English-counterpart of Sonic Channel. Might not be as robust as the Japanese site, but it is still a baby. Give it time.

Did anyone else notice they didn’t show the werehog in Sonic Unleashed? It made me laugh.

    • Reply

Except that they did? They showed part of the cutscene where he transforms into the Werehog. Watch again.

I meant gameplay, somehow my original message didn’t get through.

        • Reply

it was all like “LOOK ITS THE WEREHOG Okay now back to day stages~”

        • Reply

Well they can’t really show gameplay that’s not Sonic. Werehog looks nothing like Sonic.

        • Reply

why would they show the werehog they only used levels from classic games and plus it would contradict sonic cd

    Classic Tails…omg soooooo cute!!!!!!! =3

    Chubby metal :3

I agree with the music thing, I’m actually looking forward to the music more than the rest of the game, which is saying something as I’m looking forward to the game more than anything ever. 😛

that level select one suggests some sort of hub world, which I like.

      Same here!

What about Modern Metal Sonic? I am literally shaking with anticipation! How much more awesome can it get?

    • Reply

modern metal is just taller. his body is around the same and his head too but his legs are sort of stretched. But i think that they’ll just use the same model for modern and classic.

This game shows a lot of promise, I like what I see

I came so hard, it ripped through my pants and hit me in the eye. The shock caused me to fall backwards and dislocate my spine. I now wear an eyepatch and walk like a crab.

    That’s how excited I am.

      You mean, like a Crabmeat.

is it me or does this video show all the upcoming levels from Generations? We’ve already had the confirmed list….might the rest of the levels shown in this video also be included? (or DLC!)

    Dude, this is AWEEESSSSSOOOMMMME!!!!!!!!!!

The ambience feels a bit like half-life, doesn’t it?

    • Reply

      I agree.

  • Reply

It’s weird that Sonic & Secret Rings is featured in that video.

    • Reply

      DLC maybe?

    • Reply

and that there was no shadow

      • Reply

It’s a video celebrating Sonic’s 20th, has nothing to do with Shadow. And altho he was in the Shadow game, it wasn’t a game where Sonic was the main character was it. They missed out a whole bunch of games. Missing Shadow compared to some of the others they missed isn’t a big thing.

SO MUCH WIN!!! I mean SEGA struck gold with this game! If this is how every stage in this game will be represented then screw tropes!! This looks crazy.

  • Reply

All of the levels that we know to be in the console version of Generations are shown in this video… could this be hinting at the levels that will appear in the 3DS Version? Maybe even a few more Console levels as well.

I like the little foot tap and aggravated look Sonic gives after the SA2 footage. It’s like he’s saying “ugh…there’s these games too…”, lol.

  • Reply

LOL so after sonic Adventure 2 he sits there and pats his foot shakin’ his head…for the bumpy road that laid ahead for both us fans and himself. I PEEPED THAT! I think SEGA knew those games afterwards sucked too. Well at least sonic colors proved that Sonic games don’t always have to be abysmal.

  • Reply

Fuckin badass. Now there is seriously no use for Sonic 4:Ep2.

  • Reply

This looks like a good game.

How is this possible if made by SEGA.

  • Reply

    Wow, thats so cool.
Sadly my happiness gonna be ruined with the other zones as speed highway, seaside hills and sky sanctuary. Thanks SEGA, to elevate my fate and then blew away.

    • Reply

I think that sky sanctuary will be some serious epic staff, speed highway a skyscraper scamper on steroids, and seaside hills from the screens seemed an aquatic ruin clone more then a ghz one. But yes, sky sanctuary as the choice from 3&k is a depressing choice for us.

      • Reply

Really? I don’t see the problem with Sky sanctuary 😮 I wanted either that or Lava reef/Hidden palace… But I guess it’s a matter of opinion, really.

  • Reply

Did it sound to anyone else like Classic Sonic spoke at the end of the video too?

  • Reply

I just noticed that most of the games featured are on the confirmed level/DLC list. I would pay for a recreation of Night Palace. Oh, and I hope at some point we could plug in a second controller and be classic/ modern Tails in a co-op splitscreen mode, with score tallys at the end of the level to see who PWND better.

    • Reply

p.s. HUB lookin thing= awesome. Thank you, SEGA.

  • Reply

I missed the old look Tails so damn much, he is a very welcome sight! And he looks as adorable as ever ^_^
The Chemical Plant looks slick as hell <3

  • Reply

I wonder if the levels featured in the 20th birthday video will be the featured videos… If so all I gotta say is Fuck yea Speed Highway .<

  • Reply

Anyone else notice that the 3DS picture is mostly blue? (hard not to)

Apparently the codename “Blue Adventure” is being taken a little too much to heart.

    • Reply

It’s not a codename, it’s the Japanese subtitle. PS360’s is ‘White Time and Space’.

  • Reply

Well, so much for Shadow the Hedgehog getting a stage. Then again, Generations is supposed to be all Sonic-centered games which leaves one question: Why did they forget to include 3D Blast? Betcha that’s the black sheep of the Classic era. 😀

    • Reply

We know that Shadow the Hedgehog will be making an appearance in the game in some form.

      Don’t be scared, homie.

    • Reply

Personally, 3DBlast was one of my favorites…I would kill to see Rusty Ruin, or Panic Puppet in a modern 3D setting…or even converted into a moedern 2D setting for classic sonic…just the music remixes alone would make me—-n–nooo D: *runs to the bathroom*

      • Reply

i would much rather had spring stadium but thats just my opinion! ;D

  • Reply

I am so looking forward to this

  • Reply

so is it safe to assume that chemical plant zone and stardust speedway are two seperate levels or is that still up to debate?

  • Reply

Fuck year. This is going to be amazing.

  • Reply

    E. P. I. C! That’s what it spells for me. Damn Sega, now you’ve pulled the line that hits the fans the most.

Stardust Speedway is my favorite in Sonic CD, in which I’d be glad to Race against Metal Sonic again. Come on… Who doesn’t agree huh?

I’m looking forward to those remakes so much! Damn Sega has to make a PC version now, or else I’ll have to get it a whole year late.. *sigh* the disadvantages of being poor.

one more thing: I hope Tails is playable then. If so, I will be OWNING this!

  • Reply

Someone get me the MP3 for that Live and Learn remix.
    PLEASE.

    • Reply

      Agreed. That remix is awesome.

  • Reply

OMGOMGOMGOMG <3 SEGA LET ME HAVE YOUR BABIES!!! ^^
Classic Tails is soooo cuite!! Nostalgia in it's best 😀
Chemical Plant Zone rocks and so did the Sonic CD level!! I love you guys!!

HOW BOUT THEM MP3s?! I like games for the gameplay and the music

  • Reply

Am I the only one who noticed that Sonic 4 wasn’t included in the 20 years-video? xD

  • Reply

What really dissapoints me about this game isnt the fact that it looks absolutely amazing at this point, but the fact that Sonic 4 episode 1 WAS meant to be going back to its roots, and that game is now just about non existent. I hope they remake Sonic 4 with the style similar to that of Sonic Generations / (Classic Sonic only) and scrap this whole episode DLC only idea. Surely SEGA are waking up and noticing how much more attention and popularity they’re getting with SG. Might really be on the upper with Sonic games at this point…

Chemical Plant is looking very nice indeed, Im impressed SEGA and hope to see many more like this..

    • Reply

It dissapoints me because Sonic 4 didnt do what SG did..

What’s that blue thing in Classic Tails foot?

    • Reply

The buckle… which has been there since day one 😛 just wasn’t shown in the sprites.

    • Reply

It’s a belt. I never noticed it before, but apparently Classic Tails always had belts on his ankles.

      http://www.gamingtruth.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/tails.jpeg

    • Reply

It’s a buckle for his socks.

      … yeah….

      • Reply

        Wouldn’t that be a garter?

I just noticed that if you look on the Chaos in Space 2 poster with the highest resolution, you can see characters that “star” in the movie.  Including Chip, Tikal, Marine, and Emerl…Random

  • Reply

Anyone else notice that the background in the second screenshot isn’t a city, but just more of the plant, even though it has the same light structure? All this time I thought there was a city in the background. Apparently not.

  • Reply

They had better involve the death egg in some way in this game or I’m going to lose my mind.

    • Reply

The leak we got had it marked as a boss stage, so it seems awfully likely that it’ll be in.

  • Reply

The death egg will be in the game for sure….in what way im not sure…it would be awesome if the boss stages include the level thats involved to getting to the boss.ie…final rush to fight shadow. Sky sanctuary to fight mecha, death egg to…well fight eggman and destroy death egg.

  • Reply

HOLY. SHIT. This game looks just awesome! I stopped visitng retro and when I come back it’s just to see this. I’m speechless!

  • Reply

So Star Dust Speedway is in this game. (Yet the different look throws me off, oh well) The good news is that their are more levels than the demo revealed which warms my heart! But than I saw something that ANGERED me beyond normal human limits! The freaking red ring coins are back! *Turns Super Saiyan 4 due to extreme anger!* WHY SEGA WHY?! I hated gathering those things to obtain Super Sonic in Sonic Colors and you bring them back?! WHY?! Can’t you give us Special Stages to find like in Sonic3&Knuckles which upon completion gives us a Chaos Emerald instead of gathering those ANNOYING coins which than gives us the Special Stages to collect the Emeralds? Sega you just make it harder and HARDER to obtain Super Sonic don’t you?! DON’T YOU?! *Reverts to normal form* Sigh But look at Classic Tails he is SO CUTE! I want to hug him lol.And like everyone else I’m surprised Black Knight wasn’t put within the video, Sonic 06 I understand. (I liked Sonic 06 a lot actually, it’s one of my favorite Sonic games, it’s just very hard and broken for silly reasons.) And the Live and Learn remix is superb! How can anyone not love any remix of Live and Learn? I’ve played out that song so much yet I can’t get enough! Crush 40 please tell me this your return to the Sonic world. This game looks so promising, I am indeed a HAPPY FAN! But than again I’ve enjoyed every Sonic (main) video game so I can’t wait for this!

    • Reply

Dude, what’s wrong with making Super Sonic harder to get? It just makes playing as him all the more satisfying

      • Reply

Although what you say is indeed true, I just don’t want to go through all that trouble to get the transformation. *Laughs* Honestly who wants to go through all that? *Laughs*

  • Reply

we should compile a list of the levels in that video that arent confirmed in generations, and see if they are referenced or become dlc. ill start: metropolis, grand metropolis, palmtree panic, marble zone, carnival night, lava reef, emerald coast

  • Reply

Oh gee, Tails. They’re both so adorable; Tails can’t ever be not insanely adorable.

  • Reply

Is it fitting that the level select screenshot makes me think of Crash Bandicoot Warped?

    • Reply

Fuck. Now you got the level select theme in my head. But yeah, it’s actually kinda similar.

  • Reply

Oh great. I knew the pink water was coming but I can hear the endless countdown music already. When I first started playing Sonic 2, it was one of my most hated parts.
You should’ve seen my face when I made it to Aquatic Ruin.

  • Reply

Just to clerify, that is CLEARLY stardust speedway bad future…..the fixtures and red sky give it away.

Now dance. Because the remix is going to be SLAMMIN’!!!
