We gave plugs to some of Sonic Boom’s debut music earlier, and one of the more requested songs so far has easily been the Classic Remix of “Escape from the City” that will be used in Sonic Generations without any of the audience voices.
We hear you loud and clear. While the recent dissection of the demo yielded its own musical results, Escape from the City was missing from the included files.
But Sonic Retro has its ways…
And in this case, it was as simple as just catching a Summer of Sonic livestream and recording a CLEAN version of the song.
Points to how the autotuning was used (Sonic 3 fans should pick up on it immediately) and a small techno line at the end just because it references the original (and, in my opinion, better) version of the song in the Dreamcast’s Sonic Adventure 2: The Trial, where the vocals were replaced with an energetic guitar lead.
Opinion injection and bitter old man rambling aside, I bet you all want that song. So, I’ll shut up and offer this tasty link for your downloadable consumption. Please right-click and save to your hard drive or just stream it from below.

I never knew I could Escape from the City, in such high quality.
This comment and topic had made my morning.
Thank you, Gene and Malady. 🙂
;D
wow… that was bad pun.
Yea, but it made you smile didn’t it?
yea it did =)
WTF, the link doesnt work anymore!!
Working fine here. Check it again?
I’m actually more excited to hear modern sonic’s rendition.
Ooooh no you won’t! ;P
Nice catch. I hear major differences in the versions from SOS and Sonic Boom. The unclear one from SOS is almost pure techno, but there is clearly guitar in the one from Sonic Boom. Probably just the more recent version, but it could be cool if there were two different versions of the song.
Unclear from Sonic Boom I meant, not SOS, it would be nice to have an edit button cause I’m the only one here who double posts.
I agree. The guitar was pretty awesome in the original one from Boom.
techno>guitar c: I love this arrangement. Thanks for the high quality
I dunno why but this song is so damn uplifting…wow…NICE JOB!!! It just makes you feel right at home LOL.
Some aspects of the song remind me of Happy Hardcore, though this isn’t as quick.
Thanks for the great music, Retro!
What I find interesting is that, a while back, someone by the youtube username of n0neimp0rtant i believe made a giant mash-up of sonic music called Sonic Blast. I don’t know if it’s still up on youtube or anywhere, but in a part of the second Sonic Blast mash-up he put Escape from the City from ‘the trial’ and Endless Mine together at one point. xD
Man, sorry if this comments a bit irrelevant, just thought it was an interesting bit.
yeah actually he himself acknowledged it, he thinks it’s awesome (and it is). Now he’s s0me0neimp0rtant lol
Oh come on! I had a HQ file on my desktop! I was late to the party.
Thanks so much for the link!
Also, what’s the autotuned part from? I can’t place the original song, and I’m about to tear through the S3 soundtrack to figure out where that rift is from…
I’ll make your search easier: it’s a multiplayer stage.
I spent ages tryna work out what it was xD
Its actually the melody from Endless Mine in Sonic 3 🙂
THIS made my birthday (today) Better :D!
Well, a happy birthday to you then!
Oh my god. Thank you SO much for this. I LOVE this rendition, though I’m still curious as to how the Modern version sounds, merely because it should just be a touched-up version of the original. And hey, I got two awesome Sonic Generations things for my birthday: The demo the day before, and this four days after. Now all I need is to hear how they handle Open Your Heart in the Perfect Chaos battle and see what they do for Metal Sonic.
i will put this song on my mp3 and do a lot of exercise also i have alot of sonic music in my mp3 i hear them when i am doing exercise and yes i do exercise everyday i a gym lol
WOW 😀 i love this song :DD
I really love this version over the original one. Anyways, both them are pretty good.
I’ve put this to my cellphone for listen it before school 😉
Really enjoying the song until it hit 1:00 and turned into a T-Pain/Cher suck fest. Guess I’ll be muting the game for this level and playing some good Sonic remixes from OCRemix.
Doesn’t sound much better than anything I’ve heard on there. Besides, the autotuning is a nice touch for how it was used instead of just a generic voice filter because the person can’t sing worth a crap.
…how is modern pop music considered “classic sonic”?
Rollin’ around at the speed of sound,
got places to go, gotta follow my rainbow(Epic Endless Mine Autotune). I’m going by the name of Scott4 now (formerly ScottQB4)
I like this version (not any more than the original, but still good). I just have one big problem with it: does anyone else feel like Rebecca Black is being channeled throughout? I definitely got that vibe around 1:05.
Modern version sucks so far…
It took me a while to realize this was paying homage to Endless Mine! That’s awesome!
Awesomnes! Thanks a ton for that link!
