Clearly the biggest draw of the event was the ability to play a demo of Sonic Generations at Sonic Boom. At least 20 stations were set up across the venue for fans to take a crack at the tale of two hedgehogs.
Here we have yours truly going through both the classic and modern versions of Green Hill Zone. Being my first time running through the game at all (no fibs here), they’re not the most stylish, but they should address whatever concerns people have with the physics, or raise more. Who knows!
Sega announced that the demo was making its way to PS3 and 360 soon, meaning those who didn’t attend will get their hands on them soon enough.
Like what you see or want someone dead? Comments and trash talk about how much I suck are down below for your pleasure. And yes, the DJ was terrible. Feel free to mute the audio.

You should post links for people on mobile.
Ugh. Why does Modern Sonic have so much boost? Whatever happened to EARNING your boost instead of always having it?
You didn’t catch the parts where he barely had any? Anyways, I see the boost here is far less generous than in Sonic Colors DS which literally handed it to you for everything you did.
While it is a bit easier to build boost than it is in Sonic Colors, falling onto the lower path makes it somewhat harder to build it back up. It drains somewhat faster than you think it does.
Therefore, if you fall onto a lower path and mindlessly boost on (like I did), you run out pretty fast. I had to conserve some for the fish chase, if you noticed.
I actually like Billionaire, but that’s just me.
I love how excited Classic Sonic gets at an S rank. It’s hilarious.
I’ll agree with that. The exictement part. How I wish I’d been able to go to E3 and Sonic Boom.
I’m curious, what happend if you jump in the middle of the loop with classic sonic?
that is probaly something we will have to try ourselves
Oh man. It looks so awesome. Any word on a specific date, or just the vague “soon”?
Vague date of soon is what Ruby Eclipse said on stage. Everyone’s hoping it means “June 23” or the week of, but that may not be likely.
i can see a demo release on june 23 but i heard on wikipedia the full game will be released on november 15
I noticed with the play through of Classic Sonic, when you enter the S tubes, you automatically are forced into a ball and speed straight into it, instead of going down it with the current speed you already posses and add momentum and velocity as you go down it, via Sonic 1.
I like that. Entering one of those tubes at a slow speed was annoying and you’re going to get sped up anyway, so why not just speed up right at the start?
Why don’t you nitpick at the tiniest things, just a LITTLE bit more?
…
Really.
Not that I was nitpicking, I was just pointing it out, I mean it’s not like I don’t like the idea, but what happens if you want to go get something, or reach a platform, but cant’ get it because you’re going mach 10? It can be very annoying, and not to mention since it’s autoscripted, you can’t slow down in the tube once you’re in. That is just a little concern I have. It’s not going to keep me up at night or anything, but I decided to point it out. Also, Classic Sonic getting an S rank is damn cute.
I’m not sure how I feel about your complaint, since the tubes do speed you up in classic green hill, but autoscripted events have been a concern for me since the beginning so I agree with what you have to say
Classic Sonic looks so adorable when getting an S Rank.
Teach Sonic how to Dougie!
Nah, moonwalk. Dougie’s A gay dance.
I’m pretty sure Sonic is familiar with the moonwalk (see: Sonic Colours) and to be honest he didn’t really need the breakdancing (see: COME ON, STEP IT UP!)
>Classic Sonic getting an S rank
I wanna hug him so badly now. We need a new plushie/toy lineup for this game. D:
Uh, we are. Remember a while back, Jazwares was showing off that new Classic Sonic figure? It’s for this.
I forgot what it looked like, but I’ll try googling it of course.
I agree with you. The DJ was pretty bad. At least he played one Michael Jackson song….sort of…. Wouldn’t of killed him to put him a little bit of Sonic music though. c:
I like how those guitar chords came in when you beat the level as Classic. Perfectly accidentally timed =P
Well, your Classic Sonic video up there answered just about all of my physics-related questions. Specifically, 0:20, 1:06, 1:33, and 1:59. I like what I see.
they’re be no hedgehogs with moonshoes this time! X3
Maybe it’s just me, but Classic Sonic reminds me of Felix the Cat from the 90’s TV show. It has that slapstick humor-like approach.
Wouldn’t that have been the style of Classic Sonic back in his era, given that it WAS released in the 90s?
Also, about the complaints with MS having too much boost; this is GREEN HILL in case you haven’t noticed; Hill-type zones are arguably the easiest zones in every Sonic game, or are intended to be. I bet City Escape won’t be that easy.
You’re right. In the City Escape playthroughs, only the truck part boost is constant spammed.
Only thing I dislike about the videos: The DJ… that music in the BG sucks. >_<
One thing I’m debating on doing (moreso because both have been flagged for “Third Party Content”) is taking these two down and overdubbing S1 Green Hill Zone on Classic Sonic and SA2 Green Hill Zone on Modern Sonic. I really wish we had a patch cable so we could have gotten the game audio without the club noise.
That would be enjoyable actually. I think it could benefit the videos.
Good uploads. I agree on the S tube though. Purists will complain but even besides that I see just a couple minor things.
If this really is a momentum based gameplay then why isn’t it being taken advantage of?
It’s really hard to take a gauge at what a game can do when you’re essentially playing the first stage for each character. They usually keep it easy and free to help get people into the game.
I really hope that’s true in this case. I have to be honest, with Sonic 4 I decided not to be picky just so I could enjoy it. However, when they bring in this much nostalgia I’m not going to be forgiving. We’ve all played them since the beginning; you know the feeling.
Modern Sonic’s 1:15 and 3:14 are just great.
wow this game looks awsome, can’t wait to play it! note: i’ve noticed that the hedgehog engine has had some optimizations, since the frame rates are much smoother than sonic unleashed (sonic unleashed when playing in HD lagged like hell).
HOLY FUCKING SHITWAFFLEZ! A FFFFFFFF-ING PLAYABLE DEMO OF SONIC GENERATIONS?! *excuse meh while i lose my manlihood, and jump up and down like a follish child…*
