Windmill Isle Act 1 Released for Sonic Generations PC

The team consisting of Dario FF, Chimera and TwilightZoney have released the first act of the first stage of Sonic Unleashed, Windmill Isle, for the PC version of Sonic Generations. The purpose of this release is to test the mod on as many systems as possible. If it works on enough systems they’ll start to convert all of Unleashed’s stages. More details can be found in the following video and in the link that follows.

Here is the forum thread with details where it can be downloaded along with instructions on how to install it. Other credits go to JoeTE for ripping the songs, Korama for making CPKREDIR (which makes developing and using mods more efficient and easier) and MainMemory for making Generations Archive Editor (which does what the name implies). Like it was mentioned earlier, the intent for this release is to test it on as much hardware as possible. Meaning that you can help the development of the mod by posting the results of how it works on your set-up on the forums. Also post results if you mess around with it by doing stuff like combining it with other mods like Classic Sonic Adventures or some model swap you found on Youtube.

    I believe you mispelled Instructions…
(forgive me if I mispelled anything in this comment as I am using a computer with the default language as spanish).

Yeah uh, I’d like to just point out right away that I run my Sonic Gens at BELOW the minimum (though I’m not bothered by it since it brings me back to the days where I had poor framerate on an N64 emulator. xddx). Regardless, LiveStream did slow the game a bit more, and I can’t tell you exactly what the precise speed was, but I’d say quicker than the normal Sonic Gens levels. With that said, here:

^Hey, not that bad actually! It maybe annoying with Classic Sonic, but being that your boosting alot with Modern the game doesn’t seem like it’s running that bad! Made a 40 second level (if that video was anything to go back) into almost double the length of it at least.

(For some reason i can’t do normal replies so I hope you end up reading this).

I am running Generations at maximum settings and I am getting a steady 60 FPS. However, I do have a fairly strong computer: Window 7 64 bit, Intel i5-2500k GTX580, 8GB RAM and my processor is overclocked to 4.4 GHZ.

For some reason, when using the Windmill Isle mod, in the Classic Stage, bridges that have the Choppers have disappeared and the game randomly crashes.

I am also using a model swop of Tails.

Well yeah, it’s not perfect, but I’d really like to do anything to try to get it to run even just a little bit faster than it already is, though I doubt it’ll be that easy with my current specs. Still, better than nothing, I suppose, since it CAN ran Sonic Gens at a moderate enough pace.

Don’t want to be too spammy, but expanding further on this, I took the liberty of having another run, this time with the Classic Sonic Adventures mod enabled:

It’s funny, because the quick step and corkscrew parts are actually running very well… when livestream’s off.

The stage ran pretty good, though it stutters a bit more after the update. Trying to exit the stage used to crash the game, and finishing the stage made the game crash once, as well as trying to change the music of GHZ act 1. Updating my drivers got rid of most of the crashes, but it still occasionally happens.

My specs (which could use upgrading, I’m aware)
    3.1 GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce G210
    Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E6600 @ 3.06GHz

I tested the mod on my vanilla Sonic Generations install. Followed the readme file.
    I works great.
I play the game in stereoscopic 3D using the game’s native 3D mode and it looks gorgeous. I recorded a video :
    http://youtu.be/uLgWGhHCW4s

    System specs :
    Intel Core i5-750 @ 3.6GHz
    4GB ram
    AMD Radeon HD 7970
    Windows 7 64bit
    3D display : custom made Dual-projector system
1920×1080 60Hz (the video I recorded above is 720p only)
The level in the mod runs super-smoothly, no performance problems.

You know I think knew something like this would happen if they had sonic generations on the PC. So it’s like DLC cept we have to work on it and make it our own. That’s just genius and evil and cool at the same time. But it’s free!
