It isn’t a secret that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 is coming to just about everything under the sun. One particular release they have been pushing, though, is the version that will be on Android devices, specifically those with the NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor. After all, it was an earlier conference with NVIDIA that was originally meant to unveil the logo to Episode 2 (though that didn’t actually happen). Well, at the Mobile World Congress 2012 currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain, this cross promotion has allowed a playable build of the game to be on the show floor. And where there are playable builds of Sonic games, there are men and women with video cameras ready to capture every second!
Recorded by Android fansite Phandroid, the video gives a pretty nice look at the very beginning of the game, showing off Sylvania Castle Act 1, including the very first underwater segment you may be forced to encounter if you’re not quick enough on the trigger. At the very least showing that, yes, there are alternate paths, there isn’t enough to say one way or the other just how much the level design is improved from the previous outing. While the reps at the show were also insistent the the build is early and may not be reflective of the final product, it’s more than enough to get a feel of the game. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we get a longer video showing off the entirety of the stage. Either way, it’s extremely comforting seeing “Tails” follow Sonic around, jumping like a madman in the last few seconds of the video. Just like the old days…
Edit: Oh, look at that. There is another video already out there!

0:08 So – we meet again Red Rings — let’s hope the Red Rings are only for extras and not like in SAdv2 neccessary to unlock the Special Stage.
Gotta love when the people who are playing the demo have no idea what they’re doing
Thank God there’s plenty of springs and boost pads to carry the player through the level. I shudder at the idea of having any control.
My thoughts throughout the video:
“Stop talking I want to hear the music >_>”
Looks so much better than ep1. Is may here yet? TAKE MY MONEY
Red rings have never been used to unlock special stages. Sonic Advance 2 was the only game that did that, and those weren’t even red rings.
I just totally love that the people hired to pitch can never play. This goes for demos of Capcom games and stuff I’ve seen too.
I’m glad to see that when Sonic goes through loops, the screen did NOT rotate with him! (Video 1)
Also I had to laugh at the second one. I was thinking: Either the guy was a useless twat that can’t play sonic or the game has the same bad controls that Ep. 1 had (1:58-2:20).
17 levels, huh?
It’s the same as Episode 1 then.
If you look closely, you’ll notice the rings are just .gif animations…
Also, why no Vita love? :'(
and the netbook? D: is a monitor or inputo for big monitor? D:
Not being funny but I am more distracted by sonic 1 playing next to it. It looks really sharp and in wide screen. New android release maybe? Sonic CD re release style please.
I hate to nag but the physics hardly had any fixes and is it me or is the wrong sfx for the spindash still there?
The STILL havn’t fixed the spindash sound effect. Minor nitpick, but I remember Aron Weber saying something about letting the devs know about that in regards to Ep.1. I guess they didn’t get the memo.
17 levels= 17 stages?
yes but from what we have see so far it looks pretty good
you can tell they are not finished yet considering it is going to be released in may
Oh man, Tails even walks like he does in the Genesis games!!
I notice a slight improvement in Physics at one point. SEGA is getting there.
Like the cool sunset effects, like the waterfalls, mostly like the physics. Okay with the designs, carried from Sonic 4 Ep. 1.
Now I must see what the do with Metal Sonic.
Oh hey there noisy crowd, I CAN’T HEAR THE GODDAMN MUSIC! Well, I can BARELY hear it and from what I CAN hear it sounds pretty good.
That’s an Asus Transformer Android Tablet (in it’s keyboard dock), hooked up to the TV via HDMI, and the 360 controller over USB.
It’s prettyy sweet.
that last part showed that you have to be playing with tails if you want to get through the level…… great >_>
@sandwichbars
JUST LIKE THE CLASSICS! đ
Anyway, I’m really liking how this is looking. Still can’t find any issues with the physics, though. I’ll have to wait for a playtest.
So Is Tails going to be a necessity? I don’t like Tails very much so I hope he could be turned off like in Sonic 2.
He will be.
First video:
1:52 – left side of the screen.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
yes, episode 2 seem’s to me better, I mean spectacular! Lets all have a mad cow for breakfast…
am I the only one who realized that they got rid of the walklingÂ
WTF! Okay, I need better hardware, NOW! Ain’t no way SEGA was going to attempt THAT on a Wii! Right now, it looks to me like it’s enough to convince me to buy an XBox or a Windows computer, but opinions always change of this, so expect anything until it’s done!
uh…did you play Sonic Colors? because you collected Red Rings to get special stages in that game…
can’t wait for Little/Miracle Planet’s return!!
