Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 Achievements Revealed and More Screenshots

Just as we thought we wouldn’t see any more Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 info or media for a while, the achievements for the game suddenly pop out of nowhere. Around the same time Sega of Europe has uploaded seven more screenshots on their official website, showing a returning object from the more recent titles in the Sonic franchise:

As you can see, the Red Star Rings from Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations are back. In previous games they unlocked Game Land stages or extras and skills respectively, so the question is what they unlock this time around. Go after the jump to see the rest of the screenshots and the achievements, beware that these do have some pretty big spoilers.

The Adventure Begins – 5G
Clear SYLVANIA CASTLE ZONE, Act 1.

Rolling Combo! – 5G
Activate the Rolling Combo with Sonic and Tails.

Metal Sonic Falls – 5G
Defeat Metal Sonic in SKY FORTRESS ZONE, Act 1.

A Golden Wave – 10G
Defeat all bosses as Super Sonic.

All Stages Cleared! – 10G
Defeat the final foe and watch the ending.

Tag Partner – 10G
Upload a Multiplayer score or time.

I Love Tails – 10G
Play as Tails 50 times.

Ring Collector – 15G
Beat Special Stage 1 after collecting every Ring.

Endurance Race – 25G
Clear all stages without returning to the World Map.

All Chaos Emeralds Found! – 30G
Collect all seven Chaos Emeralds.

Proof of Speed – 35G
Clear SYLVANIA CASTLE ZONE, Act 1 in one minute or less.

All Red Star Rings Found! – 40G
Defeat the final foe after collecting every Red Star Ring.

I warned you about the spoilers. We now know you fight Metal Sonic in the very first act of Sky Fortress Zone, which hasn’t been revealed yet, and for the very first time you can use Super Sonic against all bosses in the game. Besides that the world map from Episode 1 returns and the co-op spin attack seen in the trailer is called a Rolling Combo.

    Awesome, Castlevania Zone!…Oh wait.

  • Reply

already lol we don’t even have a release date yet.

    • Reply

We do actually, it was put up on the Xbox Live page for a short time. If it’s right it will be released on May 16th.

Yep…This is definitely gonna kick Episode 1 out of the spotlight. They may as well just call this episode alone Sonic 4. 🙂

    Wait a second….

    Sylvania Castle?
This had given me two separate (yet random) thoughts.

    ~ 01. Possible Castlevania cameos.
~ 02. Sylvania brand utilities making a background appearance in the stage.

Sky Fortress Zone? Oh, this is the throwback level. The name screams Wing Fortress.

  • Reply

..Sky Fortress Zone? I hope it’s not a wing fortress rehash.

  • Reply

Y’know, I think this also confirms the ability to play as Tails (alone?)

  • Reply

Well this gives some hope, collecting the red rings means there will be extras to unlock, though I won’t be expecting much at this point, most likely it’ll just be concept art for the game or sount test, Rolling Combo? nah I’ll go with 69 attack =p

Those prudent enough can remember that Sky Fortress Zone was the original name of Wing Fortress in early Sonic 2 protos.

    Wait.. Tails in 1-Player?

    • Reply

Tails can only be played by doing co-op with another person. In other words, you’ll need to play co-op (online or local) fifty times.

Thats maybe not true… Its correct that its unlikely…. But sonic 4 episode 2 has only been seen for less then a month

Sky Fortress? Sounds like Sky Base and Wing Fortress had a kid… and I found it great that Super Sonic can be used in bosses, it was well needed like in the Final Boss of Ep 1. And we now that the Red Rings unlock a boss.

    “Sylvania” probably refers to woods.

Either way, this looks highly palatable-here’s to hoping we get a remake of episode 1 while we’re at it.

Sky Fortress Zone immediately reminded of Sonic Advance 2’s Sky level…

THEN I thought of Wing Fortress.

  • Reply

If I’m certain, wasn’t Sky Fortress the Beta name for Wing Fortress in Sonic 2?

“Beat Special Stage 1 after collecting every Ring.”
    TTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

lol what the hell. tails’ tails are not connected to him when hes spinning in the air. thats fucking awesome programming.

  • Reply

Man, the couldnt have made the rolling combo look more like 69ing could they? Last picture cracked me up XD

  • Reply

That’s how his tails always worked in the 2D games. We’ve just never seen it because Tails was either in too tight a ball (Sonic 2 and 3, Advance 1) or spinning too fast (Sonic Advance 2 and 3).

All pretty non-spoilerish to me. Super Sonic is assumed, fighting Metal Sonic an obvious conclusion (you’re seen pursuing him Stardust Speedway style in the trailer)-can’t wait. 🙂

I’m waiting to hear the music.

Sylvania castle zone is the “aquatic ruins” rehash, i think.

  • Reply

    Endurance Race – 25G
Clear all stages without returning to the World Map.
This is very good!!! increase the difficult of the game!

  • Reply

Can somebody please make a version with the zone names blocked out? I dont wanna spoil it T_T

  • Reply

Anyone else reading that as Sylvanian Families castle? *hits head keyboard*

Hm…it looks like its the same as sonic 4.1 – 4 zones then egg station, but this time 4 zones then flying fortress. What are the odds that the flying fotress crashes on to Floating Island after you beat it? (a la Death egg in the end sonic 2 / start of sonic 3) It would allow the return of Another classic chararcter and a chance to re-visit some great zones!!! Or even better crash on the Little Planet for a “Sonic CD 2” game in episode 4.3!

Also, I do like the endurence race idea – it means that “new gamers” will have to play the game “old school” like us Master system / mega drive vets who HAD to play the game through in one go without the option of saving!!

However, I want this on disc release asap (with episode 1 and episode 3 please!) under the title “Sonic 4”

“Sylvania Castle” my ass, that’s just a night-time Aquatic Ruin Zone.

  • Reply

Is it going to be possible to play as just Sonic? Ditching Tails was always the first thing I did in the Genesis games.

    • Reply

Sonic and Tails. The levels seem to be designed specifically with co-op in mind.

This should be interesting as to how co-op will work with a computer.

  • Reply

No words on what console it will be on?

    • Reply

Xbox Live, PSN, iOS, and certain types of Android phones. PC as well.

  • Reply

it will be cool that they put tails playable in single player

  • Reply

well in the old games when Tails jumped or spin-dashed his tails stayed put while he was spinning, so there :p

  • Reply

Sylvania Castle sounds like a gated community somewhere. Hey, there’s an idea for a level theme–Sonic running through suburbia. Get on it, Sega!

  • Reply

Yea, neither was his tails connected in any of the other games.. so.. yea…

  • Reply

How many stages are in the game so far i counted 5 i believe?

  • Reply

I find it funny how some people care so much about playing as super sonic…
he is just a bad joke that was thrown in sonic 2 in order to parody dragon ball z. I find him to be just as bad as shadow and company

  • Reply

@davethesodaguy who cares if he’s a parody of a super saiyan, super sonic is awesome

  • Reply

Would it be safe to guess that maybe the final boss would be a metal sonic race on the remains of stardust speedway?
