Sonic Heroes Now Available on the European Playstation Store for PS3

Sonic Heroes, one of the games that according to some started the wave of bad games in the Sonic franchise, is now available on the Playstation Store in Europe for £7.99/€9.99 for the Playstation 3. This was released along with other PS2 games under the PS2 Classics label on SEN. Note that these games (Including Sonic Heroes) didn’t get the HD treatment certain other “classics” like the God of War or Sly Cooper franchises got. These are exactly the same as the original versions, with the resolution being upscaled to what you have in your PS3 settings.

So yes, this means it’s the worst version of Sonic Heroes. And no, this does not mean that Sonic Adventure 2: Battle will be getting a re-release. Also, the file size is 4.5 GB, so if for some reason you actually want to buy this game make sure you have enough space on your PS3’s hard drive.

This isn’t the worst version. I know two others:
The PC Version (Missing textures, bad slow down even on good computers) and the McDonalds toys. Its technically a version of it.

LOL. I hope sega re-realeases the PC one, that was honestly the greatest Sonic game ever on PC (including Generations) It just takes some settings manipulation and SHPC works on my crappy toshiba without slowdown. Like how it took me hours to get Lego Island to work.

Anyways, bad idea SEGA!!!! although the music in SH rocked (TEEEEAAAAMMMM CHAOTIX!)

Am I the only one who actually though sonic heroes was a decent game?

Actually, the PC version isn’t THAT bad. I prefer it over the PS2 version. Plus, at least the cutscenes are played completely with no stutter.

I think Heroes is more popular than some seem to think. My main issue is the bottomless pit hell beyond Power Plant.

Oh jeez, WHY the PS2 version? That console always got the most watered down, messiest turd ports in 6th gen multi-platform games. (It’s inferior hardware specs, when compared to even the Gamecube, sure didn’t help with that.)

Even stranger is the file size. The PC version/GC port didn’t even make use of 1.2GB, but this release needs 4GB? If a higher bit-rate in the game’s CG clips don’t explain it, then WTF.

They could have at least made a “quick and dirty” port of the PC version, like they did for Sonic Adventure DX on the PSN. (And unlike the poster above me, the PC version ran pretty well for me. Even on Intel graphics, of all chipsets! Had to go with the 30FPS option, not 60FPS, but still.) That would actually make sense, whereas this does not.

I still have my original copy for the Gamecube and the Gamecube-backwards-compatable (a.k.a. ORIGINAL) Wii, so i’ll stick with that, thank you very much.

I have the PS2 version of Sonic Heroes, and it plays fine, although my PS2 isn’t the most reliable machine, as it has a hard time reading disks, so I think I’ll buy it for PS3, nostalgia tells me to do so.

Nope, I liked that game as well.

I love Sonic Heroes. Well, except for the voices…

I never played any version, outside the PC and Gamecube ones, though, so I wouldn’t know how big of a misstep this release is.

hheheheh I had a computer that had the jitters that I beat this game on…thanks to the damn jitters I was able to capture those chaos emeralds a lot easier LOL…I did though legitimately beat this game on the PS2 with a serious migraine trying to get the chaos emeralds in that version…but none the less I loved this game to death. What did mess with me was the controls…once I got them down pat and a few youtube vids of strategies heh this game became cake lol.

Bad game is bad, I’m among those who found Sonic Heroes to be the first bad Sonic game, now had it been Sonic Riders that would be great to see!

No wonder why that smile kept being familiar.

    Hopefully we’ll see a Vita release soon…

Couldn’t they just get the Gamecube version?
I mean it’s not they couldn’t of, they got Sonic adventure DX over to the Playstation fine.

I loved every bit of Sonic Heroes (except Chaotix)
Though the PS2 version is the worst. Not buying this, I still have my superior PC version.

I personally really like Sonic Heroes, but I hate that shit-eating grin he has in that picture.

I loved Sonic Heroes. Great Sonic game. IMO it had the right idea of being a classic sequel, except in 3D.

Some minor let downs here and there, but I found it a really enjoyable game.

I still however own my PS2 version of the game. And I paid like $60 for it back when it came out, and I’m not paying again for it when my PS3 SHOULD have had retro compatibility in the first place. 😛

It´s a bummer it doesn’t even have trophies.

sonic’s face is so scary in this game’s box art, it is easier to see that when they have an image that focus right on it in this post… lol

It’s a .iso of a PS2 game, not trimmed (containing all of the garbage data), fed into an unfinished software emulator that was promised by Sony to be free as a system software update back then when the PS3 was launched (when they said they were planning to remove PS2 hardware retrocompatibility to drive costs down in the long run and switch to a software implemenation).

Plus, I don’t find the game to be great, and the PS2 version was the worst version among all console releases.

    No thanks.

I actually get mad when people call this a bad game. The level design was great, it reintroduced special stages, gameplay was creative but still felt like a Sonic game, etc. The only things I didn’t like were the cheesy Metal Sonic monster thing (spoiler alert? ah who cares) and the repetitive team shouts “GOT IT!” “LEAVE IT TO ME!” “GOT IT!” “HERE WE GO” “LEAVE IT TO ME”

Oh yeah, and the Chaotix collecting levels weren’t cool.

After playing Sonic Adventure on PSN, my personal feelings are that the crappiness started way earlier. I’m thinking Sonic 3D here.

Also, my theory as to why SA2 isn’t up there is because of rights issues with the Soap Shoes.

Somehow I doubt a few textures that can easily be swapped are the reason why SA2 hasn’t been re-released yet.

I think Sonic Heros was actually very fun! However, I still strongly dislike the character models (especially the shininess) and (GASP) Tails’ voice.

I actually think Sonic Heroes is one of the best Sonic games. I don’t know why people think it was bad!
