All Stars Racing Sequel To Cross The Finish Line By Year’s End

Leave it to Sega to have their secrets disrupted by every external force in the universe. Kotaku is reporting that toys pitching the upcoming racing sequel were spotted at the New York Toy Fair with further confirmation from the representative on deck that the game will be out by year’s end and feature new playable characters. This information links up well with a teaser posted on Sonic Stadium that Sumo Digital was at work on another racing title.

We can only hope the shortlist includes the likes of Wonder Boy, a Rag Rappy from Phantasy Star, and Segata Sanshiro riding on a Sega Saturn controller.

I had a been there done that feeling with the game and only the Sonic levels were interesting for me. I’ll check the sequel out but it’s gotta be good.

kinda actually hoping it’s focused more on the sega all stars this time around…

I liked it better than Mario Kart Wii. A whole lot less nonsense.
    So I welcome a sequel.

do you think that possibly they will have classic sonic as a racer? with his own kart modeled after his sonic drift kart?

Oh goody. Of course, Sonic in a car is just not the same.

Maybe we’ll get Bayonetta in this one. 😀

Why the he’ll am I driving a car?

And maintain that E rating? Bayonetta will be a tough character to include, unless they put her in a large sweatshirt.

HOORAY! I loved Mario Kart Wii: Lazy SEGA paint coating edition. Maybe they’ll add that one guy from Alpha Protocol and the person from the Conduit and a random samurai from Shogun Total War. I mean, if Shadow and Big can get in and Ryo can have two slots over say, Ristar or Dynamite Heady or Nights or Vectorman or Toejam and Earl, then why can’t we have more stupidity? And lets not even talk about how much less it’ll have to do to rip off Mario Kart even more.

I just hope they’ll handle DLC better than the last game. It’s a shame that Metal Sonic is basically the only “new” character that came out for it, whereas there was so much more potential to tap from.
(PSII’s Rolf/Nei in the Land Rover. Think about it. :< )

    NiGHTS and Reala. Now.

    nice, Shinobi has another chance

Hey, you know what? As long as the newcomers includes NiGHTS and Ristar, I’ll be happy.

I have a good feeling about Ristar this time~ Don’e let me down Sega >:C

    Don’t forget Ristar!

  • Reply

So that’s why sonic needs car insurance from progresive! XD

  • Reply

Talk about ignorant. Mario Kart Wii was CHEAP. SaSASR was much more balanced and fun.

  • Reply

lol I certainly hope SEGA shines some better light on other series this time ’round. NiGHTs and Ristar seem to be popular candidates for new charas, and I’d be okay with that.

That being said, I’m probably the only one rooting for a Puyo character. (Even if they cop out and do Carbuncle/Has Bean)

Uh, Alphus…Sonic in a car is so that the game is BALANCED. Sonic wouldn’t break the rules (until the rulebook states he can go Super, even then he limits himself given how fast he can really go, just look at Unleashed) so he’s gotta have his own vehicle in order to be fair to the others which are not so fast.

Another racing game? where’s my Fighters Megamix 2?

  • Reply

The whole idea of Sonic in a car is dumb. It’s just Sega cashing in on Mario Karts success. Would rather it had the characters running like in Sonic R… Just without the awful music.

“But having said that, the tipster informs us that the developer told them months ago that they will be doing no more additional work on the first game.”
Y U NO METAL SONIC DLC FOR STEAM

Sonic’s a nice guy. If it were a footrace, he would win almost every time. He and his buddies are driving so that the odds are even.

That said, I’m keeping my eye on this one. I enjoyed the original (although when I went online everyone kept choosing Shadow), and seeing as I have a Wii and no internet at my place, DLC is not a problem. If they can add more diverse level themes and add more Sega characters (Vectorman FTW), I’ll give it a try.

One of the best news I could hear. I wish too that it focus more on the Sega side. Loved Alex Kidd, Chuchus, Ulala, Bonanza Bros… This time at least Ristar and Nights should get there. And there´s plenty of awesome characters to put on…

All Stars Racing was better than Mario Kart Wii, IMO.
But don’t freaking get me wrong: I like Mario a lot.
My favorite MK was MK64. (And i love all of Mario’s adventures, be it 2D or 3D, just like with Sonic.)
MK Wii was stupid! You’re hit by something every DAMN second!
It’s the only god damn racing game where it punishes you for being in the first place! Also, the drifting was pretty dull and I still don’t get it how do you do tricks in mid-air! UNFAIRNESS EVERYWHERE.
ASR was fluid, speedy, easier to simply sit and play… Hell, if you fell off the track, the “restart system” would put you back in track already moving! When a weapon hit you, you would be sent flying upwards, but not losing much of your forward momentum! PERFECT!
Just everything that was broken in Mario Kart Wii, thus making ASR better! (Again: IMO.)

I never had a chance to play the first S&S:ASR, but I saw enough positive feedback and gameplay of it to be satisfied with.  If Sumo Digital is making a sequel, then all I can hope for is greater verity of content.

I liked SEGA All Stars Racing WAY MORE than Mario Kart. It’s sad that I paid full price for MK and I’ve barely even touched it. Compared to SASASR which I play to death.

My gripe with the original is how Sonic stages are only based off Heroes (yes SEGA, we know you adore Heroes, but let it go already! Can we race in Sweet Mountain now please? Or Hydrocity Zone?)

I swear I’ll never take “Sonic in a car!!!” complaints seriously.
Nobody complained about Shadow using skates in the Winter olympics, or Knuckles using a hang glider. Or Mario using a trampoline, or Bowser being able to outrun Sonic.

No, let the better game get all the lashing. SEGA could do any sport, ANY sport, and people would complain how they’re ripping off Mario. Sounds to me like MARIO is the real cash-in since he tried pretty much every sport in ONE era’s lifespan alone.

Take it easy, guys. All Stars Racing was a very good game, I don’t see why people should complain.

Ah sweet! I thought the first All-Stars game was a great contender for Mario Kart. Though they missed so much in the first game. The things I’m hoping for in the sequel is that Ristar (along with NiGHTS , Reala and some other characters from other Series) are playable. And secondly, this is a racing game, so SEGA why don’t you tease with tracks from your arcade racers like Daytona USA 2, OutRun 2, SEGA Rally 1 & 2 and SEGA Super GT? Oh and handle DLC better.

It’s not the fact that it’s a spin-off that has a stupid premise, it’s that the game makes its name as “Mario Kart with Sonic and some other SEGA characters that you might know.” The mere fact that so many people are saying that it’s way better than Mario Kart is proving just how similar they are. And yet, even with the whole concept ripped-off, they still missed the refinements of not having stats being tied to one character (I swear that the only race is at the character select screen for Shadow), uninspired power-ups, and serious online problems. The game even used some online artist’s picture of Sonia for Amy. How could any self respecting game that had genuine effort and let that slip by if it wasn’t some stupid cash-in? I can’t mention this game without Mario Kart being mentioned, and eventually being reminded how much more fun I have with it.Sure, the Wii version had a bad case of luck-determines-winner issues, but at least it doesn’t slap together its racing mechanics. Of course, you really should be playing either the DS or 3DS versions anyway.

It’s not what the game is, which is a passable Mario Kart, but what it means, which is that these studios will just rip-off their competition before trying anything new or even considerably different. Sonic Drift proves that a rip-off is never a good long term or even passable plan, and this just proves how little they’ve learned over the years. Unless this sequel really shakes the ground, or hell even mixes it up enough to avoid Mario Kart similarities, this will be just another sloppily slapped together mess of uninspired mesh.

I kind of get why Sonic’s racing in a car, but it still bugs me. I would love to see him running alongside the vehicles, as a hidden racer or something.

Kind of makes me wonder how long we’re going to have to wait for a Sonic R sequel. It’d probably do fairly well, I mean, the original was pretty good. I even kind of liked the music.

Why do people act like Nintendo owns the kart racing genre? We get it, they did it first or they made it popular. It doesn’t mean that no other company is allowed to participate in the genre. I don’t get why Mario fanboys can get away with such comments.

Even though Sonic in a car is a dumb idea, Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing was a damn good Mario Kart clone [and I put really heavy emphasis on this — it’s pretty much MK with SEGA chars].

Not that that’s particularly bad [loads of kart racers end up being just MK clones, but often manage to be tons worse], and I hope the sequel manages to be better.
For what’s been called a cheap cash-in, it’s at least a rather enjoyable kart racer.

Also, so much want for Ristar in this.

    1) Why the fuck is everyone comparing (and most times say that it is a rip of) Sonic all stars racing to Mario kart when there is more than mario kart in the racing genre

2)Sega all stars racing is a racing car game, not a sonic game so that is why he is in a car and drifting would looked shitty.

Some people are letting their feeling about the whole thing go to waste. Some of the best games are made base from the fact that they are cash ins or ripping off. Heck, I always believed Sonic as a rip off of Mario, but we don’t spend all of our time saying that. You can be fans of stuff that are considered ‘rip-offs’ anyways.

Basically, so what? A good and fun game is a good and fun game. I personally am SO looking forward to this game, loved the first game, it was a lot of fun.

I’d like to see more obscure characters, ones that aren’t used much anymore. Alex Kidd and the Bonanza Bros etc were great additions. Considering I still think they missed an opportunity bringing Nack the Weasel back through the Riders series what with his air-bike thing and all, it would be nice to see him in All-Stars Racing 2 with a new modern design.
