Tails looks nice, Sonic looks awkward being exactly the same render as Episode 1 with a different hand… I know it´s to look like Sonic 2 title screen, but come on… It shouldn´t be that hard to make another one…

RIP Classic Sonic, I guess Sega thinks the public is too brain dead to handle two forks of Sonic ala Megaman and Megaman X. Maybe it’s not a bad thing, if the quality isn’t increased over Episode 1 then it would suck to see him associated with it after his joyous return in Generations. If anyone thinks about replying to this with “But but canon” can it.
If they are staying with the established style then they are probably staying with the established gameplay…

Ah, Sonic. Still looking as derpy as ever I see. It’s the mouth, I swear. Tails looks alright though.

    Very subtle tag there.

No different from the fan art you see every time you google sonic 4 episode 2, but then again what else could they have done?

  • Reply

Wait… Exact same poses as Sonic 2, damn, I hope they don’t do a rehash again. Episode 3 tails will be flying the tornado in the background. I’d bet on it.

    I kinda saw this coming.
But no classic designs. d= I don’t care.

We all knew this was coming…however I do like the Sonic 2 reference. I’m so tired of seeing the wagging finger, and this is a nice change.

I thought they said they weren’t going to play the nostalgia card this time.

Neither of them look comfortable.  Their posses seem stressed, and unnatural.  Tail’s head looks like it’s sliding off his body.

I didn’t even bother with Episode one..  We’ll see if this one turns out the same.

This looks like it was easily made to resemble Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s title screen, no doubt. That, or Sonic is clearly ADMITTING that the Sonic 4 series is not the best game. At all.

I haven’t had real problems when I played Episode 1, so I can’t really assume how bad other people think it is.

Look at Sonic’s hand. It’s like he wants us to get as far away as possible.

And if they haven’t fixed (READ: actually added) physics this time, I think that’s just what I’ll do.

Wow, they reused Sonic’s face model from the Ep. 1 logo didn’t they? XD

  • Reply

Hmm… I wish to see gameplay, then I’ll decide if I’m excited for this or not.
I hope they’re not going with reused stages for this one. Title screen is reused, but I hope that’s the only thing.

  • Reply

Meh, not surprised. Episode 1’s title was a rip off of Sonic 1’s. It still saddens me that they attempt to use modern Sonic in what should be a sequel to Sonic 3… Again I feel like ranting about how classic Sonic should be used in this continuation, but I don’t think I need to. Everybody thinks it, no?

Mmh, i thought they would have reused something of the Genesis Era like in Ep.1, but i can’t understand what…

I said this over at the sega blog comments section, but in the sonic 2 logo, i see tails sticking out his right arm and pointing his thumb just shy of the center towards the left. he is essentially doing the opposite pose of sonic.

    sonic one= one finger
    sonic two= two thumbs
    sonic three= three fingers

I cant be the only one who sees it this way, right??

Modern sonic just does not look correct, looking at modern sonic is like looking at white michael jackson, yes the feel is the same but he just doesnt look right. Classic sonic is what he is supposed to be and comparrible to the original mj, i guess just like mj there is no turning back.

  • Reply

SEGA clearly stated that this is going to be based on Sonic CD, why’s everyone assuming it’ll be a Sonic 2 rehash especially since episode 1 had both rehashed levels from Sonic 1 and Sonic 2?

Anyway looking forward to see the gameplay, I think it’s too late to hope for Retro Sonic Engine but I hope they at least fixed the physics, and maybe make the game longer because episode 1 was even shorter than Colors, and please add an option for classic and modern Sonic “though I’ll be playing as modern Sonic anyway but just so the fans don’t rant”!

  • Reply

Ugh… I still cant get over the fact of how lame that looks.

Modern Sonic fans, is THIS really the Sonic variation you like? I always thought the modern redesigns are quite lifeless and without any charm, but this is too much proof even to me.

The worst thing is, I look at this and think to myself: why even bother with this franchise anymore?

I think it’s ok. I’ll see what they use for animation when the game actually comes out. So what if it looks like the Sonic 2 logo? Sonic 4 is a reboot of the classic series after all.
If you people are REAL Sonic fans you’d wait to see what the game is gonna look like before calling it a rehash of Sonic 2.

As expected, the two of them are going to be using their Modern designs in this one, like in Episode I. I don’t mean to bring the whole “WAAAAH, GREEN EYES!” thing into this, but I’m going to have to agree with the Classic fanboys on this one. I’m far from being one myself (since I happen to like both Classic and Modern Sonic games), but even I think that those designs have no business being in this game.

My reasons for saying that have nothing to do with nostalgia. For me, it’s about continuity. In Generations, it’s been established that their Classic counterparts were their “younger” selves, and if Sonic 4 took place not very long after Sonic left Angel Island in Sonic 3, how could he and the other characters have magically aged that fast? Story-wise, it just doesn’t make any sense.

Other than that, I’m pretty sure Episode II is going to turn out fine, and be a major improvement over the first one. After all, Ken Balough got into specific details on how much the physics have changed. After seeing the way they were handled in Generations 3DS, I have little reason to doubt that.

A logo is cute and all, but I really don’t see why Sega’s so sheepish about showing off some footage to go with it. It’s this kind of cocktease behaviour that ticks me off no end.

    • Reply

Because they know exactly what’s going to happen especially after last time.

  • Reply

Well, the design has hardly changed since Sonic Adventure, a twleve-year-old game, so yeah, I think people are okay with it.

Are people freaking out because he’s not smiling with his teeth open? I’m not seeing the problem.

y’know, back when sonic 2 came out, they were cartoons. When they popped out of the title screen it was like some Looney Toons business. Now if they do the same pop out from behind the title screen animation they did back then in their current form now… Makes ya wonder what they were doing back there… (has tails mouth always been white? j/k j/k)

    http://www.techshout.com/images/sonic-xbla-logo.jpg

SEGA was just trying to create a 3D/Modern look on the original Sonic 2 logo. As obvious as it sounds, I had to link the original logo because, as you can see, it’s spot on. Tails has his mouth open, and Sonic doesn’t.

To be honest, I couldn’t care any less than I do about this logo, but when people are desperate for some social interaction to keep them preoccupied until new titles are released, this is what we have to deal with. So I hope this clears it all up.

“My reasons for saying that have nothing to do with nostalgia. For me, it’s about continuity.”

THIS. That’s why I don’t buy this whole ‘this is a direct sequel to Sonic 3’ thing.
You play Sonic 1, 2 and 3 and then Sonic 4 and you don’t feel that you are playing a goddamn sequel.
It’s inconsistent as hell (and the designs are part of this huge inconsistency).

It’s not about nostalgia. It’s not about being a annoying fanboy. It’s not about being stuck in the past. It’s about coherence.
I just want to feel that I’m playing a sequel, not a remake with a (poorly) modernized design. And I don’t understand why Sega are so reluctant to see this.

But, whatever. Let’s hope that this time we get, at least, a good game.

  • Reply

Given the attention to detail in Generations with the continuity, I would have thought Sonic 4 would almost be a hybrid of the modern and classic designs, as though Sonic was in a sort of transition phase.

    I blame dimps. Why not.

  • Reply

So we have an image that might be on the title screen.

Obviously this means the game is going to be awful and Sonic Team has abandoned the true sonic fans.

Or it’s just an image, but that’s no fun. :V

For me SONIC ADVENTURE is Sonic 3’s true sequel.
