Here’s a Bit of Sonic 4 News

There’s been a bit of news regarding Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 and 2 these past couple of days. First of all, Ken Balough has dropped a hint about the second episode on the official SEGA forums:

If you’re an Episode II fan
I would go back to where the Sonic 4 Campaign first began
In a month filled with presents and Christmas hams
think of the day, the HMS Warrior first swam

If my sources are correct, the HMS Warrior first set sail on December 29th, so it looks like we may see something new on that date.

The second bit of news is that a new version of Episode 1 is now available for the iPad on the app store, which has a better model of Sonic than in the iPhone version but still has the dreaded minecart and pinball stages. A screenshot of this version taken by Guess Who from the forums can be seen above. Also, a couple of months ago the game appeared on the Steam registry, meaning it will also be released for PC on digital download services like Steam or Direct2Drive.

Lastly, there have been a few rumors about Episode 2 in the last couple of days. Ken Balough has confirmed on the SEGA forums that these are false, saying that the game has “never been uploaded to PartnetNet”:

Hi Guys, it’s good to see no one bought into this garbage. Look, Episode II has never been uploaded to PartnerNet. So anyone making claims to changes, improvments, things being the same, etc in Episode II due to “PartnerNet leaked builds” are just taking you for a ride.

You guys will hear the official facts from either myself or our terrific SEGA community members like Kellie or Kate.

Cheers
Ken

I’m confused..I saw a kid playing Sonic 4 on iPad at my dance studio around the time the game came out….is it just updated or was that kid special?

Oops, should have searched on Google. The game was already out on the iPad, but this is a new version.

That’s running the iPhone version on iPad, a common thing. This is just a dedicated iPad release.

    Sonic 4 was complete crap

Such a pity his games are being reduced to mere apps

My hate for this game will surely grow

I guess I better go play Mario.

You have a hate For Sonic.

    Which I think is Demonic.

Your head’s where this is all, at best.

I guess I better aim there next.

I agree, for sonics sequel to the greatest sonic games ever made, is a bit below average at best..

Needless to say, after all the ranting and hating that went on over sonic 4 episode 1, id expect to see episode 2 done with a little bit more passion!

Especially since SEGA got the ball rolling again with Generations and the Sonic CD Re-Release. We don’t want Another Sonic ’06 Again…

Episode II? Well, it better be original this time and none of this “Eggman has recycled all of his greatest creations” crap. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with the whole “green eyes” deal and stuff but it was really the fact that SEGA had to call it a game “built from the ground up”. Yeah, rehashed level designs, rehashed boss battles, and a homing attack makes it built from the ground up alright. Of all things, the music is the only good thing from the game and I mean the writing of the song and not the instruments used.

hmm…I guess we’ll see Sonic 4.2 in time, but I still have a feeling there’s some truth behind the physics being the same. it wouldn’t surprize me since Iizuka has defended the 4.1 physics and not once acknowledged a problem with them.

Im hoping episode 2 will patch itself to episode 1 and make rid of the shoddy physics throughout.

The model definitely looks better. As for the physics, please let it go. 🙂 It is what it is. If you don’t like it, don’t play it. This is a series with so so so many games to play. Nobody says you have to play every single one.

That Sonic on that picture just looks like someone PhotoShopped out the original Sonic and put in another one. Doesn’t look real. I don’t buy it. At least, not yet.

Yet they leave the rush physics in. WHY??!!! fix it!! I hoe episode2 is more traditional and original

The new model is great. The terrible terrible framerate on the iPad 1 is not. I restarted the iPad as well just to make sure and it’s also not jailbroken so nothing to blame there. Curious how it works on the iPad 2.

Not any better, I promise you.

@GreenEmeralds, that’s because that’s the cleaned up model for the HD version of Episode 1 that’s on the iPad app store now. It looks a lot nicer than the low poly one from before.
