Sonic Generations Demo Live Tomorrow, Expires In 20 Days

To those of you who patiently waited and didn’t get a chance to sample the demo at Sonic Boom for whatever reason, your waiting is over. Starting tomorrow, both Xbox Live and PSN will be receiving the demo to Sonic’s upcoming adventure.
Unlike the Sonic Boom build patrons got to sample, this version will only feature Classic Sonic’s version of Green Hill Zone Act 1, omitting Modern Sonic entirely.

One small catch: the demo will only be available for 20 days. After that, the demo will be removed from the services and downloaded copies will expire. Whether this is an anti-hacking measure or a way to build up hype by releasing a second demo with modern Sonic remains to be seen.

Fox Xbox Live users, the same rule as other demos applies in that Gold level users will be getting the demo first with Silver level peons waiting until next week. Don’t think burning demos to a disc works, as members on our forum are saying that no longer works.

Demo aside, Sega will also release a 20th Anniversary Bundle consisting of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Sonic Adventure (and its DX add-on), and the Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 dynamic theme on PSN for $19.99/£13.99/€17.99. A similar deal is expected for Xbox Live users. The offer also expires on July 12.

I’m thinking it’s the Modern Sonic side of the demo becomes available.

But right now, it looks to just be because Sega are slapping the 20th Anniversary with a 20-Day expiration day in some sort of dry pun.

My guess is that after we get the Modern demo, they’ll publish the E3/Sonic Boom demo, both Classic and Modern in one, and we’ll move on to City Escape demos.

Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles aren’t on the Playstation Store, for some reason.

In this case, I’d imagine it’s because Sonic 4: Ep I is nothing but levels from Sonic 1 and 2. There’s the first “Hill” zone and the labyrinth zone from Sonic 1. Casino and Metropolis from Sonic 2. Nothing from Sonic 3 &K. So, with this pack, at least the games are parallel with each other. Though, I wished they’d fix the physics engine before they re-release Sonic 4. Oh well….

Can’t wait to download this (bro is hogging PS3 playing LBP2, lol). Someone ought to backup this demo for hacking purposes/archival purposes. For all we know, there might be some stuff that won’t appear in the final version of Sonic Generations… Who’s wit me?

I like how everyone is raging the hell out in the forums that they are limiting the demo to Act 1, when no Sonic demo I think ever lasted beyond a single act, or in some cases a small segment of a level (06). Besides, most demos don’t come out a whole five months before a release anymore (if anything they tend to come out after), so this is pretty generous as it is.

Destructoid was reporting based on Sonic Stadium which got their news from Andriasang, which means nowhere down the line was Modern confirmed. Destructoid probably reported that based on the E3 demos having both. Not to say that it isn’t the case, none of us know first hand, but I thought I’d point this out.

To be honest, I’ve been hearing Classic only then both then back to Classic only that I’m just going to let it fester there until tomorrow.
I honestly think it’s just Destructoid being over-assumptive and it’ll just be Classic Sonic. Not like it’d be the first time that site’s done that.

Ok. I’m SERIOUSLY beginning to think SEGA hates Sonic 3. This can’t be a coincidence.

-No rehashed levels from Sonic 3 in Episode 1.
-Treating Sonic 3 & Knuckles as a single game in Generations.
    -No Sonic 3 soundtrack release.
And now, no Sonic 3 included with the bundle?

That’s like Nintendo hating Ocarina of Time for being such a success. What the heck? If they payed HALF as much attention to Sonic 3 as they do to Sonic 1, 2, or Unleashed, the franchise would be so much better.

Sorry for the outburst, I just HAD to get that out of my system… The lack of Sonic 3 love from SEGA grinds my gears a bit.

But S3&K is Sonic 3…? I mean aside from some different music and a different end boss for Sonic, they’re the same games, with 3&K just being the full thing.

I totally agree, but what makes you think s3+k is treated like a single game in generations?

Sorry for double posting, but assuming the Demo expires in 20 days… If I have another account, will I be able to download it again from there?

Though I bet the answer is no.

Aw, looks like I’m waiting a week.

I’ll just go play Sonic 3&K then.
