Rumor Mill: New Sonic Game To Be Announced in Nintendo Power

As Sonic’s 20th Anniversary year chugs on, Sega has shown three titles for the franchise in a tease of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, the duel of mascots thrice over in Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and an assault of media for the upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Sonic Generations.

And yet, it seems that aside from a downloadable game and a collection of mini-games that Wii and 3DS owners are hardly getting any love in the form of a substantial Sonic platformer.

That may all be changing as next month’s Nintendo Power magazine includes a rather substantial teaser for the celebration of Sonic’s 20th Anniversary, featuring an edited version of teaser art for Sonic Generations. Could it mean that Sonic Generations is headed to a Nintendo console?

At the moment, it’s unlikely, but considering that Nintendo’s Project Cafe is set to be demonstrated at next month’s E3, and one of its rumored bits of design allows developers to easily port games from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, it’s certainly a possibility.

Or it could even be a brand new title. This would go against what Sega of America Vice President of Sales and Marketing Alan Pritchard said in an interview with GameInformer last year stating that the company only had three new titles lined up for the franchise, as we already have three titles for the most part announced.

After the warm reception Sonic Colors got on both the Wii and DS in sales, a Sonic title for any of the console giant’s trinity is all but confirmed.

Don’t get hyped up guys, It’s probably Mario & Sonic at the London Games 2012… with a classic sonic model thrown in.

I wouldn’t be surprised in the least.

Although, to be fair, THIS month’s Nintendo Power has a preview of Mario and Sonic.
That title is a marathon to write on its own.

did you read this article? it stated a NEW game would be announce. Something no one has heard of. Why would SEGA announce Mario and Sonic 3 when they revealed this long time ago on there site?

I hope it’s either Sonic Colours 2 or a spiritual sequel to the Sonic Advance series.

As good of an Idea as that is I think I like the idea of generations for project cafe. Still not getting hyped up for anything big though.

Yeah, right. Don’t waste your breath saying that Sonic Generations is going to be released on Nintendo’s new console. That’s totally ridiculous. Sonic Generations is announced to be released holiday this year, and Nintendo’s next console is going to be released holiday of NEXT year. :/ what the hell are you talking about? Besides, let me tell you why Sonic Generations will NOT be released on ANY Nintendo console. If you look at all the Sonic games that were released in the past 6 years, not a single one of them was exclusive to Xbox 360 and PS3 except Sonic ’06, which is Sonic’s 15th anniversary game, and the upcoming Sonic Generations, which is Sonic’s 20th anniversary game. So yeah, don’t waste time thinking about a Nintendo version of Sonic Generations 😛

hmph…you’re telling me to get off of my high horse? heh, you’re just pissed off because you don’t have any better reason than mine. But, if you do have a better reason than mine, LET ME SEE IT.

      Actually, he has a point.

Which is ? In the end, it’s only Sega and only them that think of which systems they will release their games.

        • Reply

Are you sure about that? I bet you that Sega will not release Sonic Generations on neither the Wii nor Nintendo’s next console. Why, let me give you a hint: GENESIS DOES WHAT NINTENDON’T. Does that ring a bell?

at first I thought they were just late with the sonic generations news, then I recall that’s only for the HD consoles. I’m curious what this is c: Look forward to E3

When it comes to teasers like this, it really could be anything. The rumor, which is what makes this report worthy, is that Sonic Generations may be en route to a Nintendo console (which is in no way a bad thing.)
What it could wind up being is just a full magazine feature that highlights Mario and Sonic 3 more and gets a first look at Sonic 4: Episode 2.
Right now, there’s too many variables at play to conclusively say what can come out of this. But that’s just part of the ride. Always good to never get your hype meters high when you see a Rumor Mill article from here. Although we’ve usually been on point, it’s better to not set yourself up for disappointment.
