“Sound of Speed” Coming Soon To iPods Across the Nation

So it may not be a new Sonic game, but another teaser trailer came out a couple days before the hoopla involving Mr. Classic Sonic and his beige-eyelids. Music remix site Overclocked Remix (who have been responsible for more Sonic remixes than you can shake a stick at) have been quietly working on a happy little album that fans of Sonic music can get excited about. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing. Just in time for the blue blur’s 20th anniversary (and also OCR’s 25th album…wait that’s not the same number) comes The Sound of Speed, a 13-track album covering the entirety of the first Sonic the Hedgehog. Previously covering Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3 with Hedgehog Heaven and Project Chaos respectively, the album is sure to at least have one really good track. It’s not out yet, but project leader Halc released a trailer so you can hear snippets of each song with some classy gameplay footage (oh man Sonic is rolling). Since they generally don’t release a trailer until its almost here…well, it’s almost here.

Can’t wait for that Labyrinth Zone remix…as long as they don’t make me drown in the middle.

Sound of Speed, not Speed of Sound.
The video made me a little seasick, but it sounds good 🙂 Looking forward to it. I think I have more OCR music on my MP3 player than “normal” music.

    THEY’RE TOO SLOW.

Seriously, though, if they’re just using pre-made songs that remixers did before for Hedgehog Heaven and Project: CHAOS, then I’m disappointed. I mean, Sonic Paradox and I have been leading our own 2-4 Disc (60 max tracks) remix album to celebrate, and all of the songs were fresh. So derp on that if it’s just old songs.

As someone who contributed on Project Chaos as well as this album, I can assure you that all of the mixes done for this album started being made long after both albums were finished.
And if you thought they’re slower than the originals, I’m pretty sure the Spring Yard Zone sample in the trailer wanted a word with you 🙂

I look at this with mixed feelings. It’s nice when someone gives a try at remixing old Sonic music, but the last two albums never really sat well with me. The one track I did like from Hedgehog Heaven (High Above the Clouds) was fine up until the entire second half of the song. I feel it just fell apart to generic techno some cheap weekender D.J. added.
While I did fix up the track to at least keep it in the same spirit of Sky Chase, it still didn’t help with the rest of the tracks. This album just seems to be more of the same from the other two. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong?
